AAFA ANTIQUE EARLY FOLK ART 1800 CUPBOARD PIE SAFE SQUARE NAILS DOVETAILED PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive pie safe / cupboard. It’s a nice sized two door cabinet with a single drawer up above. On the sides, there are punched tins little stars on them as you can see in the pictures. They appear to be the original tins which are in good shape as you can see in the pictures but not without issues. There is a hole in the second tin on the left side. There’s some paint on the tins and some paint not on the tins. 38.75″ wide at the top by 16″ deep at the top it’s 50. It’s a wonderful Primitive red painted finish with the richness of the patina of age. The back is great looking and has stains and patina. It also has letters stenciled across the top of the back and they say “AWG”. There are square nails in the top along with rusty round nails. We took a close up picture for you. On the front, the left door has a crack / split in it in the middle and the right door has a crack / split along the right side. You can see these in the pictures. On the drawer, the left knob / pull is a mushroom style while the right one is not. There’s a little metal thumb turn on the doors and it has some marking, scarring and twisting marks from years of use. Inside there’s a latch bolt that apparently was added to keep the left door in place and then the thumb turn keeps the other door to the left door. The doors have Shaker style hinges. Inside there are three shelves which have patina and wear on them. The top is wood but is not painted. The drawers are not dovetailed. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! The cabinet has some edge wear, scrapes, scratches, chunks of wood missing, chips, patina, fading, variation of color, mouse holes, rounding, and nicks. Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! We can also recommend a couple of shippers. Nwtransport at a o l. This is a great cabinet! We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. We will do our best to answer your questions. This early painting is an expressive one. Is by ALVA JEAN DEXHEIMER FOLK ARTIST. Alva Gene Dexhimer was born in Clarksburg, Missouri in 1931 and lived in central Missouri his entire life. As a five-year old boy, he fell off a tractor and suffered a severe head injury. This accident led to learning disabilities, which caused him to drop out of school after the eighth grade. Dexhimer constructed in his life time a variety of objects from scrap wood, using only a hammer and a handsaw as tools. Comicbooks with a western theme were among his favorites, and movie cowboys like Gene Autry appear in his work. In 1984, he included Dexhimer’s work in FOLK ART/FOR SALE, an exhibition for the Kansas City Art Institute. Shortly thereafter, his work was included in Deliberate Lives – A Celebration of Three Missouri Masters at First Street Forum in St. Louis, Word and Image in American Folk Art (for the Mid-America Arts Alliance) and The Radiant Object–Self-Taught Artists from the Volkersz Collection which was organized by Montana State University. Complications from this disease led to a stroke and, several months later, to his death at the age of 52 in 1984. The item “ALVA GENE DEXHIMER FOLK ART PAINTING OUTSIDER VINTAGE Lady Dark hair#2″ is in sale since Saturday, July 11, 2020. This item is in the category “Art\Folk Art & Indigenous Art”. Beautiful signed DeGrazia “The Flower Boy” Unique Vintage Framed Oil Painting from Children Series 1977. 13 5/8″ x 16 5/8″ including frame. About the artist (from the internet)- I want to be notorious rather than famous. Fame has too much responsibility. People forget you are human. The son of Italian immigrants, Ettore DeGrazia was born June 14, 1909, in the Morenci mining camp of Territorial Arizona. His early childhood experiences in the ethnically diverse community evolved into a lifelong appreciation of native cultures in the Sonoran Desert and a passion to create art depicting their lives and lore. After the Phelps Dodge mine closed in 1920, DeGrazia was introduced to his parents hometown when they moved their seven children to the Calabria region of Italy. Enrolling again in the first grade to relearn English, DeGrazianicknamed Ted by a schoolteachergraduated from Morenci High School when he was 23 years old. By then he was an accomplished trumpeter who performed with family and friends. He enrolled at the University of Arizona in 1933, where he supported himself planting trees on campus by day and leading his big band at night. During one performance he met Alexandra, the daughter of Fox Theater owner Nicholas Diamos. Ted and Alexandra wed in 1936 and moved to Bisbee so DeGrazia could manage the Lyric Theater there, also owned by the Diamos family. The couple had three children during this time but divorced in 1946. DeGrazia continued creating his early paintings in Bisbee and by 1941, Raymond Carlson, editor of Arizona Highways, started publishing features about the artist. On a rare vacation to Mexico City in 1942, DeGrazia and Alexandra left an evening ballet performance and headed to the Palacio Municipal where muralist Diego Rivera was working. This encounter led to an internship with Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco. The two Mexican masters then sponsored a solo exhibition of DeGrazias paintings at the prestigious Palacio de Bellas Artes. The following year he received a BFA, plus a Master of Arts titled Art and Its Relation to Music in Art Education. New York sculptor Marion Sheret met the artist when visiting his Campbell Avenue studio. As she recalled, his first words to her were Where have you been? They married in the jungles of Mexico in 1947 and bought the 10-acre foothills site in the early 1950s to build what was to become DeGrazias Gallery in the Sun. DeGrazias paintings, ceramics and other artwork steadily attracted media attention including the NBC newsreel Watch the World and a profile in the 1953 National Geographic article From Tucson to Tombstone. From 1960 to the mid-1970s DeGrazia became wildly successful and the gallery flourished with hundreds of thousands of yearly visitors. This infamous event was reported in such publications as The Wall Street Journal and People magazine, becoming part of DeGrazias legend before his death in 1982.
