This listing is for an early school-girl embroidery sampler under glass made by Jane Gage of Colerain and dated April 18, 1818 – 200 years ago. It has some wonderful open-work stitchery in the words “Jane Gage” along with many other stitching styles. There is a verse (with a sweet misspelling of the word “Lord”) : Lold keep me for I trust in thee. The frame is an amazing faux tiger maple striped hand-painted frame dating to the mid-1800s or earlier. The framed sampler measures about 10 by 14 inches and the sampler itself measures about 7 by 11 inches. It is backed in acid-free mat board. Condition is good, the stitching is strong and clear. It has the expected age toning of the passing of the 200 years since it was worked. Please review the photos and ask any question you may have as the photos are part of the description.
