Early 19th Century Oil Painting. Early Americana Folk Art Oil; depicting Fruit, Water Melon, Basket, Copper Milk Churn, and cut of Meat. The painting is very clean with a varnish developed with the National Gallery of Art for the protection of antique paintings. Painting would have been painted between 1820 and late 1830. Basket style is synonymous with that period and an infrared photo shows a date of 1837 written under paint layer (see black and white photo attached). Paint is very stable with a couple of very minor losses which do not effect the work, painting was relined at some point in the 19th century with new stretcher bars. Wonderful example of a highly sought after early American folk art style.
