DUE TO THE FACT THAT CAMERAS AND COMPUTERS HAVE COLOR VARIATIONS, WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DIFFERENCES IN PICTURES VERSUS ACTUAL COLOR. WE TRY TO DESCRIBE THE ACTUAL COLORS TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY. Bearing its original red and blue paint, together with Pennsylvania German floral decorations. Appears to be poplar wood. Bears two painted names, one on each side. I can only discern one last name being HUNTZ. I can not read the name on the other side rail. Both names bear the date of 1921 underneath, presumed to be a wedding or dowry rack. One full width drawer in folk art paint in red, and one small drawer underneath, this drawer in soldier blue and red paint. Later hang up hooks on back. The paint is DRY and WORN and shows the great patina and oxidation we all look for. This condition of the paint may be a little rough for some, but others will accept the natural wear. Displays beautifully, and is a nice medium size without being overbearing. Tall to bottom drawer. As described above, and as shown in the photos. No reproduction without prior written consent. Thank you and Enjoy! BE SURE YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THIS ITEM AS DESCRIBED AND AS PICTURED. If the item fails to sell when the listing has ended, only then will we possibly consider an offer for the item. And again, we will NOT respond to any message received while the listing is active. 23.5 Mexican Huichol Yarn painting 60-102. Lenght 23.5 inches (59.69 cms). Width 23.5 inches (59.69 cms). Thick 1 inches (2.54 cms). This painting is entirely made with yarn applied with beeswax and resin over a sheet of plywood. There’s a description of the painting written by the artist in the back that reads. In this painting we can see a representation of the ritual that’s performed by the marakame for the peyote. The marakame and the pilgrims dance around the peyote so it can bless their offerings and crops. The eagle will carry the message of the shaman for the gods. The deer will guide the shaman during the ritual. In this painting you’ll see a representation of the peyote cactus or hikuri, the shaman or marakame, the muvieri, the gourd bowl, the rattles, the eye of God or Ojo de Dios, the deer or maxa, the snake and the eagle and the eagle or werika. The peyote cactus or “Hikuri”, is a plant that the huichol people keep as their most sacred good used it to open a spiritual connection with their gods. Peyote is the soul of their religious culture and a visionary sacrament that opens a pathway to the other deities. The word “mara’akame” means the one who knows, and is used to refer to the shaman in the huichol tribe. The marakames or shamans are the spiritual leaders. As ambassadors to the gods, shamans preside over ceremonies, recite the divine passages, cure the sick, interpret dreams, etc. He is the nexus with the gods, invoked through the ceremonial use of peyote, and receives instructions from the spirit world through visions, dreams and trances. The muvieri is a stick with feathers used by the marakame in their rituals. It’s a mean to contact their gods and receive their messages. It’s also used to heal, predict the future and in blessings. Sacred Gourds bowls are used by marakames or shamans as containers filled with important symbols, such as corn, animals, and images of family members. For the Huichol people, the Ojo de Dios or God’s eye is symbolic of the power of seeing and understanding that which is unknown and unknowable, The Mystery. The four points represent the elemental processes: earth, fire, air, and water. In a ceremonial meaning, the Ojo de Dios is an offering to the gods to ask for the well being of the children. The parents are in charge of making the eye of god that the children will bring to the “drum ritual”. In this ritual, the children are presented before the gods so they can initiate their life as members of the tribe. Each year they add a new line or rhombus to the eye of good, in the children’s day of birth. The Huichol believe the deer or Maxa represents the heart and is the gatekeeper and guide to the spirit world. The spirit guide Maxa, who leads the shamans on their visionary pathways and teaches them how to gain their special knowledge. The eagle represents the communication bridge between god and men. The snakes guide the shaman or marakame during their rituals and are protectors of the peyote cactus. The Huichol represent one of the few remaining indigenous cultures left in Mexico. They live in self-imposed isolation, having chosen long ago to make their home high in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in Western Central Mexico. Huichol Art dates back millenia. During spiritual rituals the shaman (know as marakame) have visions which are then transcribed into carvings, yarn art, bead art, pottery etc. Each image has spiritual meaning. The huichol tribe uses many simbols as representations of their deities and other things they deem sacred in their culture. Most common ones are the peyote, the deer and the snake. Movie poster African cinema folk wall art hand painted Ghana Occultic Wedding. OCCULTIC WEDDING 3 Beautiful authentic hand-painted movie poster from Ghana, West Africa. DETAILS FOR THIS FILM AND POSTER: Film: OCCULTIC WEDDING 3 African – Ritual – JuJu – Black magic film. Poster: Hand Painted in Ghana by ARMAHSCO for JK video. Art size 60″ x 38 1/2″ (152 cm x 98 cm). Condition: In good condition with a few damages, some repairs, in some places the paint is off and some wear in the art work due to usage. This is not a print! Its a real oil paint! A real piece of Authentic African Art! This type of posters are highly collectible and many times displayed in Museums all over the world! With the arrival of video and video cassettes during 1980s In Ghana (West Africa) a small-scale film distribution / mobile Cinema was created. This small size mobile “Cinema” operators were equipped with a television a Video and sometimes with a small portable generator and were moving from town to town from village to village operating and showing their films! (During the day inside social clubs or houses and during the night in the open air). In order to attract more customers and in order to advertise their mission and business the need of huge posters was created and born. Talented artists after viewing the film were creating large size posters using oil paint on canvas (Because of unavailability and high cost of imported canvas , The artists were using used flour sacks sewn together). The artist had the freedom to add or change scenes seen or not seen in the film in order to make the poster more attractive (This is the reason that this hand painted posters are more interesting as ART than the normal posters since each of this hand painted poster is UNIQUE and except the film content it also express the artist himself). These posters were rolled or folded and easy to move around with the mobile Cinema. Because of the posters ” hard ” life (Folded or rolled, under the rain and sun and display for several months during their rounds all over Ghana) most of the surviving posters have damage at the end of the canvas, peelings, cracking and other damages. By the mid 1990s the mobile Cinema business declined and almost collapsed since television and video was more widely available in Ghana. The profits of the mobile Cinema operators were also reduced and they were not able to afford the “expensive” talented artists to paint their posters anymore. At the present days they have to rely with Photocopy paper posters in order to survive and reduce cost. ANTIQUE PAINTED FOLK ART WALL COMB BOX! PA, circa late 19th early 20th century. An outstanding folk art comb wall box in original chrome yellow with red and green trim, hearts with 6 point stars, and lucky horseshoe shapes inside the red hearts, Bulls eyes in green and red with green and white polka dots overall. This is by far the most elaborately, folky painted box of this group of boxes by the same maker. The only apology is one of the up pointing arrows was broken off a long time ago and some minor splitting of the wood and minor abrasions to paint (see photos). The paint is in excellent condition for its age! I have owned this one for some time. A similar example by the same maker is currently listed on e-bay. This one is signed on the back by E. Edward Dietrich 1928, I don’t know if this maker or the owner. The item “Antique Lancaster Co. Pa Folk Art Painted Comb Wall Box Orig Yellow Paint AAFA” is in sale since Friday, February 23, 2018. The three front panels are graduated, the bottom being 4″ wide, the center 3″ wide and the top panel 2-1/2 wide which gives it nice proportions. It is fastened with tiny square cut nails. This is a reconstruction or reproduction made from early period wood. The paint is original old paint as is the wear on the edges. The dimensions are: 12″ wide x 18″ tall x 3-3/4 deep. There are paint spatters, nail holes and stains as well. The picture of the back shows a thin strip of wood that has been glued to add a little more strength to the upper back. Folk Art Carved & Painted Salt Candle Wall Box Eastern European Birds & Flowers
A beautiful antique painted lidded carved wooden box. Judging by the style, I would think the box originates from Eastern Europe, early C20th and entirely hand made and painted. Designed to hang upon the wall, for candles or perhaps salt, the box has a bird carved decorative back and the vessel itself has been decorated with flowers and other birds. Has a repaired split along the length of the back and some paint chips, it is nonetheless a fabulous example of folk art of the period and region. Measures 36cm wide and 32cm tall – the box is 13cm deep. Has recently fitted brass wall fixings to aid mounting. Happy to send worldwide. The item “Folk Art Carved & Painted Salt Candle Wall Box Eastern European Birds & Flowers” is in sale since Sunday, October 29, 2017. This item is in the category “Antiques\Woodenware\Boxes”.
