Antique early 20th century, c1910s, original oil painting. Depicts a well done forest landscape scene complete with trees, foliage, birds and river running through. Very well done with great detail and pleasing brushstrokes. Good use of color and good capture of light and depth. Medium is oil on canvas done in a Folk Art/Impressionist style. Signed/monogrammed in the bottom right corner MAE ; quite worthy of further research. Housed in antique black painted molded wood frame and ready to hang. In Good overall condition. Exhibits gentle soiling, scuffing and toning consistent with age. No holes, rips or tears. Measures 16 1/4 x 10 3/4 and 18 x 12 1/2 with the frame. Looks very good, in original “As Found” untouched condition, some stains, surface abrasion upper left, a few small chips of missing paint lower right and lower left– please look at photos carefully. Great looking composition by Pierre Joseph Valcin! This painting depicts three birds perched on tree branches against a green Haitian landscape. This is a fine example of Valcin’s work in very good condition. The brother of painter Gerard Valcin, Pierre-Joseph was a mason, plumber and technician before he changed professions and became an artist. In the early 1960’s he came to the Foyer Des Arts Plastiques with Gerald Valcin. In 1966 he joined the Centre d’Art. Gérard Valcin and Préfète Duffaut were his teachers under whose guidance he developed his own style. 19th Century American Antique Landscape/Seascape Painting On Canvas. Canvas measures about 23″ x 34 1/2″. NOTE: SHIPS WITHOUT THE FRAME, FRAME IS TOO DAMAGED AND IS JUST TO SHOW HOW WE GOT IT. Oil on stretched canvas. The canvas has nice heavy paint texture throughout. Some alligatoring (craquelure) in spots, and one small tear/hole in sky. May have older touch ups in sky. Has some light paint overspray, (tiny white specks resting on surface) from careless housepainters painting near it sometime in its past. Could be professionally cleaned off if you ever had it cleaned. We have not cleaned it as the losses are somewhat expected being a 120+ year old painting. And they do not detract from everyday enjoyment at normal viewing distances. The painting has a great overall patina and aura about it, and will surely add interest to your home decor. Artist is deceased and is a well known artist and gardener. She comes from a generation, in which her mother, was the first physician doctor in Alchua County, Florida. Roberta was a centenarium.
