This wonderful painting depicts a horse and small dog greeting each other next to a small pond while a hunter heads down a path in the background. The sky, with hues of blue and pink, is exceptionally painted with billowing clouds. The work is identified on the plaque as being titled The Gamekeepers Favourite. The plaque also mentions this work is illustrated in Sporting Magazine, April 1836 and was painted by J. Roads and engraved by H. The work is oil on canvas and is housed in an antique gilt wood frame. It appears to be unsigned. 12 inches tall by 10 inches wide (painting). 17 inches tall by 15 inches wide (frame). Condition : Very good overall antique condition. Scattered in-painting, primarily in sky (see photo under blacklight). Losses and wear to antique frame and identification plaque.
