Andrzej Galek COSSACK CAMP Polish Reverse Glass Folk Art Painting 1960s. Mid Century painting on glass by artist Andrzej Galek depicting folklore from Poland Old Region of Tatra Mountains, three Cossacks involved in various camp activities, one man is digging the ground with a shovel, while another smoking a pipe watches, and another is drinking from a flask. Signature at bottom, A. Galek middle of painting (is faded, but still discernible). Wood framed entire piece measures 11″high x 12 7/8″wide. Very good condition, frame shows wear. Andrzej Galek, was a Polish artist and architect, sometimes known as Andrew Knob. Galek was honored by Poland’s Ministry of Art and Culture, and was the son of noted Polish artist, Stanislaw Galek/Knob. The artist passed away in 1993. This is an Estate Item, please see photos. 1920s Antique Vtg Folk Art Deco Lady Reverse Foil Painting, Gesso Wood Frame

The painting is what is called a reverse painting – the painting is directly onto the back of the glass. The painting features a wonderful Art Deco lady surrounded by a black background, with butterflies. The details are picked out in crushed colored foil, giving the painting the most wonderful shine and gorgeous details. The piece is unsigned, and is in overall excellent condition. The frame has been repainted from it’s original color to a copper color, probably at the same time the painting was done. It is a really unusual and gorgeous piece of Art Deco folk art. The overall size, frame edge to frame edge, measures 14″ by 17″. The frame has a wooden back, that has been reinforced with tape. The inside picture size is 9 1/2″ by 11 1/2″.
