This Extremely Rare Piece of Respected Black Americana History. Came from an Estate Find Years Ago. This Hand Painted and Hand Crafted Piece is Over a Hundred Years Old. Just the Paint, and Patina would Qualify that. It Represents a Funner Time of History, and by NO Means is it a Racial Representation, and Never Be Considered So. IT IS A PIECE OF ART, and Should be Displayed with Pride. Yes the Character is a Little Not to Scale, but was Made in the Era where Black History, as well as Any other Race was a Bit Cartoon-ish. The Gentleman is Well Dressed, and Could have Possibly been a Servant, or a Wealthy Land Owner. Has Crackling in the Paint, with Scuffs, and Chips. It has a Piece of Steel Mounted to the Base, as it was used as a Paperweight. And Measures 12″ H, and 6″ W, 1/4 wide. That Told me I had a Valuable Piece. They started calling around to other Appraisers, and it was the Talk of The Hour. I’m Glad I Didn’t sell it That Day. The Price mat Seem a Little High, But I’m sure it has a Much Greater Value. Vintage carnival game wheel. Hand painted and made of wood and what appears to be an old bicycle rim & spokes. Numbers 1 through 40 (so you don’t have to count). Looks like one of a kind not made in mass production, therefore the term “primitive”. Rare (I use this term in my items because it is so overused, although in this case it may apply). Some paint has chipped off, see images. Authentic, real deal, not a reproduction. Appears to be signed “St Marys”; I don’t think St. Mary made it, but who knows. Outside diameter of wheel is just over 30. Ask any questions you have. Offered today is a Rare Antique Folk Art Miniature canoe paddle with Original Paint Decorated scene titled “Autumn Scenery”. To the local tourists. Signed “Autumn Scenery” “1000 Islands”. Measures 21-3/4″ long x 2-3/8″ wide. Highly collectible and sought after for their folk art qualities. NO repairs or in-painting/touchups. This example is especially fine and rare with the inclusion of the paddlewheel boat and autumn colored trees against the deep blue sky reflected in the water. Keech paddles are well known to collectors of rustic accessories. They are appreciated for their finely-detailed, painted scenes, as well as for the delicate quality of each carved paddle. They date from 1890 to 1920 and can turn up anywhere in the U. And Canada, since they traveled home with far-flung vacationers who had visited upstate New York. The maker of these paddles was Alpheus E. Lawrence River in the 1000 Islands region of northern New York. When he was 30 years old, while still making a living as a carpenter in the familys boat-building business, Alpheus began focusing his talents as an artist. In addition to producing large paintings of steamships, sailboats, and landscapes, he established a studio (pictured below) to make and sell small souvenirs, the most popular of which were his paint-decorated model canoe paddles. This is a rare find. An amazing large c1840 American painted portrait frame. Beautiful original, dry, crackled oxblood red surface on 3 3/8 wide molding with pine base. Paint retention is excellent as is the overall condition. Solid lap joint construction with mitered corners. Measures 30 7/8 x 36 1/2 with a 25 x 30 3/8 rabbet. Howard Finster cutout painting. Original painting on wood. Brush strokes on image and title. Looks like marker on the base and the back. Title ” Teen Age Youth Of Our Lord”. Its getting harder to find his earlier pieces. There is a scratch on the top of the base about 1 1/2 long (see pic) the colors are very good. There is a hole in the center at the top I’m not sure if Rev. Finster put it there to hang on the wall or someone else. Rare early piece from 1987.
