One appears to be a doctor, leading a blindfolded gentleman, apparently hoping he won’t notice the body on the table, leading him toward a door reading PRIVATE / KEEP / OUT / DR. ” Signed in the lower quadrant “G. Framed in a wide cove frame, painted dark red and gold. Gloria Laposka was a photographer and self taught artist, known for primitive realist works. Among other places, she has exhibited at the New York Museum of Modern Art. Her paintings often evince a delightful sense of humor. Even when a stroke resulted in a stay rehab facility, she continued to delight other residents with her works. Upper border is slightly separated from the frame. Minor scratch in the lower right quadrant, and some flakes from the painted frame. (all visible in the images). No noticeable paint loss.

Jean Claude Martin was born in the impoverished country of Haiti. At an early age he become “a man”. Jean Claude was forced to learn a trade (skill) at an early age if he wanted to survive. Jean spent his time watching his elders as they farmed and harvested the crops, carved sculptures, made baskets, prepared the animals they raised for the market and painting pictures. These were the things the native Haitians did daily to prepare for trade at the markets. After much time spent observing and practicing, Jean discovered his talent and destiny. He became an artist. Jean Claude paints three styles 1 the market place 2 the countryside 3 and the ocean view. All of his paintings are done in acrylics which are much more durable than oils. He has been painting for over 20 years!

Great mid century (1948) original 75+ year old oil painting depicting a country snow covered winter landscape scene. Very well done with pleasing brushstrokes and nice use of color. Medium is oil on board done in an Impressionist/Folk Art style. Signed by the artist Zama in the bottom left. Reverse side inscribed in pencil John Phelps class 1948. Framed in its original chocolate brown wood frame with black and gold interior accents and ready to hang. Measures 20″ x 14″ and 22″ x 16″ with the frame.
