Frame; very wavy glass with striations, air bubbles and a lot of character. Men fishing in a boat on a stream. Pastel is in excellent condition, no damage noted and the colors are rich as if they were just painted. Frame measurements are 26″ wide, 20 1/2″ tall and is 1 1/2 thick. Original lemon gilt finish, notation of small amount of minor losses to gesso overlay. Reframed into its original frame with new backing. Provenance: Salem, NJ collection, the previous owner was active in the towns historical society. Original framed oil painting by Kowalski on canvas of winter village theme. The artist has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner “Kowalski”. The painting measures approx. 20″ by 24″ with the frame 27 by 31. Painting is in good condition. This wood frame with linen matting is in good condition as well. Please take a good look at the photos as they constitute the remainder of our description. The artist was born in Sopron in Hungary in 1926. He was a student of the Academy of Budapest andduring the uprising in 1956 against Communism he escaped from Hungary to Vienna. He has become internationally known for his (typically East European style) “Naive” paintings depicting Village life in the four seasons in glorious colour. Children especially like his works as each one tells a story. He has exhibited in many Galleries throughout Europe, particularly in Munich, Vienna, Tokyo, and Harrods in London.
