Mid Century Acrylic Painting “Sharecropper” by Charles Knox. With an emphasis on expression over realism, this Charles Knox painting vividly portrays the worry on this sharecroppers face. A textured paint technique creates layers of depth and adds dimension. Knox has a raw, immediate quality to his brushwork that indicates he was painting outside of traditional art school conventions. While the exact year “Sharecropper” was painted is unknown, the simple wood frame and linen matting are indicative of a mid century origin, perhaps between 1965 and 1974. Sweet naive painting with interesting subject, signed by artist & poet Charles I Ramsey Doeg, complete with provenance and a cute pencil written poem. Seems to have been after the Provincetown fish pier in Cape Cod. Just a really nice little time capsule and not something you will likely find again. This artwork features Dieters well known Naive folk ark style. Dieter work always seemed to feature depictions of dachund dogs and long pink eared rabbits in a folky naive landscape with figures and farmhouses in rural country side settings. Signed by the artist. Normal wear around edges. Measurements: 20″ x 15″. Dieter drew delicate scenes of his private, childlike world familiar to him. The sun shines brightly in Dieter’s work and his stiff, but serene existence emanates from his work. Dieter drew on paper and paperboard with pen, ink, pencils and crayon. Rare Vintage 1980’s Original Haitian Folk Art Naif Painting. Original Haitian Folk Art Naif Painting by Charles Dufranc. Original Haitian art painting for collecting and home or office decoration. Signed: Charles Dufranc (listed). Size: 16 X 20. Acrylic on Canvas Stretched. Physical Condition: Very Good. Born in Jeremie, Haiti October, 1949. After grade school, he moved with his parents to Port-au-Prince. After briefly attempting sculpture, he soon switched to painting. Dufranc paints a wide variety of subjects. He is most agile in cubistic style and his scenic paintings are quite sought after. Influences upon his paintings include both the French and African cultures along with the religious ones of vodoun and Christianity both of which are found in Haiti. As a youth, his father taught him to carve wood and to sculpt. Dufranc began serious study at the Academy of Fine Art in Haiti. He began showing his paintings publicly in 1973. International exhibitions took him to prestigious galleries in France, Germany , the US, Santo Domingo, Canada and Costa Rica. One of his works is in the permanent collection of the International Salon for Naïve Painting in Paris. He has had much success in Venezuela where his paintings sell consistently and have been collected by ambassadors. He has had various exhibitions in his own country, as well as in the United States and Venezuela. He is very popular in France and his work is shown in major galleries and exhibitions there.
