For sale here is a Modernist, Folky, Mid Century AFRICAN AMERICAN URBAN Composition With 3 Figures over the background of Residential Buildings. Verso a frame shop label. Signed by Diddie Mae sideways. Pictures taken with and without flash so a color variation is expected. Size – image is about 4.5” by 9.5”. AFramed- 9.5 x 15. Antique 19th Century New England Winter Landscape Folk Art Oil Painting Signed

Antique 19th century, c1850s, original New England folk art oil painting. Depicts a winter landscape scene complete with a large house on a lake. The lake is surrounded by detailed trees and foliage; another house can be seen further down with trees disappearing into the horizon. Above the scene a dark sky can be noted with ominous clouds rolling through. Very well done with super detail, especially in the trees and plants. Boasts great capture of light, depth and shadow. Medium is oil on canvas done in a Folk Art style. Canvas affixed to early stretcher bars with antique nails. Signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. Looks to read O. Battis ; worthy of further research. Has a great patina with lots of age toning and cracking to the paint which is typical of a piece with this much age. In my opinion the toning and cracking add to the character of the piece and enhance it by acting as a testament to its age and authenticity. Two small puncture holes along the right side but not noticeable until a closer inspection is done (see photo 8). Small knick to center of the painting. Eye catching and appealing. This is a charming and wonderful Antique Black African American Modern Folk Art oil painting on wood board, by Florida artist, B. This work depicts a rural Southern country scene, with two children in the foreground, and a red back house and hanging laundry swaying in the background. To the upper right of the children is a quaint wooden house, with two women, presumably the mothers, chatting and socializing. Acquired from a deceased estate in Southern Florida. Kleinberger and dated 69 in the bottom right corner of the painting. Painting is in great shape, and frame has a few minor scuffs on the edges from age. Approximately 20 3/8 x 22 7/8 including frame. Dorothy Morton (1905-1999) Framed 20th Century Gouache, Zoe

A wonderful portrait, entitled’Zoe’ by the British artist Dorothy Morton. With charcoal detail and bursts on bold colour. Well presented in a grey card mount and duck egg blue frame with gilt detail. Handwritten label to the reverse gives the title and artist’s name. Signed with initials to the lower right. In fine condition overall. Very minor scuffs to the corners of the frame. Painter in oil, watercolour and gouache. Morton attended Art Teachers Training College in Clapham and studied with Archibald Standish Hartrick and Dora Billington at the Central School of Arts and Crafts before and during World War II. She joined the Cambridge Drawing Society, Colchester Art Society, Sudbury Art Society and Gainsborough House Print Workshop. Her group shows included venues such as the Minories, Colchester. Her one-person shows included a retrospective exhibition at Bury St. Edmunds Art Gallery in 1983. Her work is represented in the collection of The Leys School, Cambridge. Size: 50 x 47cm (19.7″ x 18.5″). Framed Size: 61 x 57cm (24″ x 22.4″). Includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
