Antique Game Rack Pennsylvania Dutch Tulip Paint Carved Wood Iron Hooks Folk Art

An antique wall-hanging game, fowl, or herb drying rack. Handmade and hand painted milled wood with a carved crown and five original embedded wrought iron hooks. The dealer we bought it from said it was probably late 1800s. We have seen closely similar racks identified as Pennsylvania Dutch and this rack shows a style of tulip painting that has much in common with known Pennsylvania museum pieces like the example in Henry Kauffman’s book Pennsylvania Dutch American Folk Art (see photos). We are not experts: please use your experience to evaluate; questions and comments are welcome. The rack has an interesting free-flowing floral painted decoration in blue, orange, teal green, white, and yellow. The design blends nicely with Norwegian rosemaled folk art; we used it to hang hand knit Norwegian mittens, Scandinavian acanthus carved meerschaum pipes, and wood chain wedding spoons from Norway. Condition is as pictured, structurally sound. Note a wood knot or an old filled hole between the far left 2nd and 3rd hook. Measures 36 inches long, 5. Inches high, and 2. Some who have seen it think it may have been cut down from a longer original. The upper molding may have doubled as a plate rail. Note that we shoot our pictures under several bright daylight lights to bring up detail; the rack looks darker in room light. Thank you for looking, questions are welcome. Who doesn’t love penguins? This fella or gal is close to life size and is a representation of an Emperor Breed. Solid wood on wooden stand it is wonderful Folk Art. Found in a collection of folk art not sure exactly where it originated from. The penguin has a nice older surface with some paint wear as expected with age. Early to mid 1900’s. Italian Country small Goat Cart this antique Folk Art carved and painted with side panels is in original condition. The cart only measures 22-1/2 long, not including the one stick Runner left. (other side is broken off and gone);17 wide wheel base to wheel base. And the overall height including the turned side posts is a little over 12. This 19th century Folk Art Panel has a carved wood border depicting a historical times, all the iron is hand forged. The four Folk Art Paintings are unusual. The Folk Art paint you see on this 19. Century Goat Cart side is original and the hooks, bolts, and nuts. It does have some damage ; no wheels, missing one side runner, and the back tailgate. See photos for complete conditions. This 15 tall (11 ¼ without base) middle to late 1700s carved and painted wood saint boasts wonderfully grungy, untouched surface with soot accretions and crazing from YEARS near candles. He is missing his hands (carved separately) and glass eyes. Near the base, he is a bit soft from old (inactive) insect damage and he is loose on his exceptional polychrome carved wood plinth/pedestal. He needs to be handled gently, and has terrific presence. Very Rare Zook Amish 3d Hand Carved Painting Folk Art Kinzers Pennsylvania

This is a beautiful, rare Amish 3d hand-carved painting by Sam Zook, of the Kinzers, Pennsylvania, Zook family. Sam Zook worked in tandem with Abner Zook before Abner’s death, releasing at least one work by the two of them together. I tried to capture the depth of the carved figures through the photos. This is wood-carved in deep relief. It is quite heavy, I’m estimating around 15 lbs. The size of the frame is 17 5/8″ square, with the inner image measuring at 13 1/8″ square. The depth of the frame, not including the carving that extends beyond the frame, is 2 1/8. Measuring 16″ x 6″ and 2 m /4 thick, this solid wood sculpture features a caped warrior on horseback slaying a large serpent as winged figures observe on either side and a religious figure gives prayer to the warriors right.
