Vintage St Vil Haiti Haitian Canvas Painting Folk Art Black Americana Abstract
Amazing vintage piece of Haitian art signed St Vil Murat? Work is rather old and on stretched canvas. Colors are very bright and similar to the Neo-Mannerism of Ernie Barnes work. Depicts a colorful & abstract view of a Haitian market. There are a few small condition issues that I have photographed. Just a few small areas where paint has worn away and there may be a blemish here and there. Painting could use a slight cleaning. It displays wonderfully as is. Frame measures 20 1/2″ x 12 1/2″. Actual canvas work measures 15 3/4″ x 8″. It could stand to be re-framed as the actual work does not fit perfectly in current frame and is a bit loose. Amazing find from a Chicago area estate. The item “Vintage St Vil Haiti Haitian Canvas Painting Folk Art Black Americana Abstract” is in sale since Friday, April 21, 2017. This item is in the category “Art\Art from Dealers & Resellers\Paintings”. The seller is “retro-metro” and is located in Danville, Illinois. This item can be shipped to United States.

1865 Civil War Era Painting Black African American Woman w/ Bowler Hat Folk Art. Feel free to submit an offer. This has been in storage for over 40 years! 21 photos in the listing. I believe it is signed William Petty, 1865 but I may be off on the signature. It could also be Pitty, Getty, Betty, Gitty, Bitty or something else entirely. Really incredible painting of an African American woman wearing a bowler hat. The colors are very complex. Definitely completed by a skilled hand. I believe the frame is gilded, but don’t know for sure. Minor wear in a few spots as shown, but overall the frame is gorgeous. The painting could use a cleaning; especially the removal of an old spill shown to the right of the hat. Open to showing this incredible piece in person by appointment. Framed size is 34 1/2″ by 32 1/2″. Thanks and good luck. The item “1865 Civil War Era Painting Black African American Woman with Bowler Hat Folk Art” is in sale since Sunday, April 02, 2017. LEON KENNEDY American, b. “WE LOVE WE LIFT OUR HANDS UP TO YOU WITH PRAISE 2015″. Signed and dated on front LOWER LEFT CORNER HIDDEN BY FRAME; signed, dated and title on verso. Size: 20″ x 16″ x. 5″ stretched canvas set in 25″ x 21 x 2 FRAME with four nails. Materials: Acrylic Paint, glass beads, glitter on stretched canvas. This work by Leon Kennedy is documented and archived for provenance, and included in his digital catalogue raisonné. African-American spiritual visionary Leon Kennedy b. 1945, Houston, Texas uses mixed media on found objects to paint ecstatic visions, memory paintings, and urban life portraits. Kennedy is featured on several pages of Rosnak’s Contemporary American Folk Art (Abbeville, 1996), and in Betty-Carol Sellen’s important survey, Self Taught, Outsider, and Folk Art (McFarland & Company, 1999). Folk Art Messenger Vol. 3, 1997 reported that the acquisition makes the Smithsonian American Art Museum the world’s preeminent repository for American self-taught art. Mentioning Kennedy, Folk Art Messenger notes these works were the first American collection exhibited at the Collection de l’Art Brut, Switzerland, which testifies to its quality and uniqueness. It is our desire to see them as part of the history of 20th-century American art. The Leon Kennedy masterwork now resides at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, while photos of Kennedy and other materials of Kennedy’s are available for study at the National Archives in Washington, D. Leon Kennedys works are included in many excellent public and private collections. Like Reverend Howard Finster, Kennedy often references the Bible, usually on verso.
