Sulis Fine Art is proud to present this large and varied collection of oil paintings by the mid Century artist, Barbara Doyle. Doyle’s subject matter has great range and depth, with a focus on portraits and floral still lives. An unusually consistent and signature style was developed early on in her career and stayed with the artist, right through to her most recent works. Doyle uses muted palettes to make flecks of vibrancy stand out all the more against the darker backgrounds. With a’rough and ready’ approach to painting, Doyle has created a body of work that has universal appeal. Barbara Doyle was a British artist, born in Halifax, North Yorkshire in 1917. She spent most of her life living on the South Coast of England. She painted her whole life, right into her later years. She was appointed a member of the Arun Society during her career and exhibited widely across the UK, including at prestigious London venues including the Mall Galleries. The painting is unsigned on board. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some wear to the paint around the edges and general wear and dirt to the surface. Three is a large crease across the top third and a vertical scuff in the centre of the sky.
