Fantastic original early 20thC English Pub Sign, possibly from the Cow Roast Inn. Painted for Benskins Beer as well. Wonderful hand painted graphic of a hand turning a spit with a cow roasting over an open fire. Is sand painted / has a sand texture similar to other of that era. Solid cast iron frame with several layers of paint. I have no idea how this got to upstate, NY. Quite a fascinating piece. Sign (framed) measures approximately. 30.25″ by 37 7/8″. The loops for hanging at top extend another 1.75. As you can see, the sign has a split in the board and some significant loss to one side. Paint wear commensurate with age. It is signed in the lower right hand corner “Amede Heroux” and depicts a Hunter in his boat with his double barrel shot gun. He is watching as a Lion is about to attack a Tiger. In the water is a head of a young Water Buffalo. Boldly hand painted in oils, this Folk Art painting does have a couple of restorable problems. There is L shaped tear near the boat, and several other small repaired tears on the right hand side. You can see them in our black light photographs. This early 20. Century American Folk Art Sculpture depicts a Native American Indian, with a bow. The bow is original and made from metal. I didn’t notice it at first but a past owner many years ago did some in painting with brown to the worn reddish paint. There also is a missing piece of wood from the handle holding the bow as well as an old repair to the other arm. Even with these problems this 22 tall Folk Art Indian Carving displays very well. We are listing this American Indian without any reserve.. I live in Rhode Island and travel between Southern New Hampshire and Eastern Maryland almost every week.
