RARE Antique 1880s FOLK ART painting of BORDER or CAIRN TERRIER Dog on Porcelain

I offer this rare and wonderful one of a kind piece from my personal collection. I have been collecting since the 1980’s and have owned this since about 1996. I bought two plates by the same artist that day, and one was unfortunately damaged in a move. I have shown the more descriptive back signature of the broken one in the last photo for reference as to date. It is in the last photo with “Circus Day, April 30, 1884″ on the back. This is about 140 years old! As you can see, it is a hand painted beautifully done painting of a Cairn Terrier or Border Terrier with a rabbit in it’s mouth. The expression in it’s eye as it appears to be looking up at it’s master is priceless! The clouds are beautifully done in soft colors. It has a bit of impressionist style to it. Shropshire of Lexington Kentucky on a quality Haviland Limoges porcelain blank. The mark on the blank is mark F dating from 1876 -1889. This painter was quite skilled, and it is so much nicer than those mass-produced transfer designs! A must see, and you will never see another exactly like it! Measures 10 in diameter and is in perfect condition. The dark spot on the pale blue rim is simply a drop of paint under the glaze when originally created. This is an original painting, and not a transfer print. Easy to hang on the wall with a plate hanger, or display on a shelf. Perfect for a Terrier lover! This piece is so wonderful, I really wouldn’t mind keeping it, but I have offered it for sale to fellow Terrier lovers. Please view the photos, and feel free to ask any questions. Antique 1880’s New England Early American Folk Art Child’s Sled. The Fantastic Early American Folk Art Child’s Sled is painted Red with Yellow Pin Striping & White Daisy Style Flowers. In the center are Two (2) Birds sitting on a Branch with Cherries. The Sled is Oak with Metal Runners over an Oak Framework. The Side Boards are Pegged. Don’t miss the chance to own this fantastic example of Early American Folk Art! USED CONDITION: There are the normal scruffs & scratches to the sled due to lots of use. There is a split lengthwise in the red body of the sled. There are pencil markings on the underneath side of the body. The split has been glued. The wood runner on one (1) has been broken & glued in two (2) spots at the upright post. The other runner has additional metal attached to both sides of the wood runner at the last upright post. There are some chips of wood missing & hairline cracks here & there. There are several holes in the body that do not go clear through the wood. The red paint is worn & missing in spots. RARE 1880s O/C FOLK ART STILL LIFE PAINTING HANGIN TROUT FISH FISHING ADIRONDACK

This is a rare and fantastic, super nice piece of early American primitive folk art. An oil on canvas still life painting, ca 1880’s to 1890’s, depicting a string – or 2 sticks really, of speckled trout. Quite possibly upstate NY or New Hampshire but could be from anywhere with woods and fish. The painting has nice colors with a great subject matter. It is a fresh find gleaned from a long time private collection, and comes in sweet, as found condition, with no cleaning or restoration of any kind on my or the previous owners end. Attic fresh so to speak. It comes framed in a period Adirondack type wooden Oak & Gesso frame with old stretcher & with old nails, all appropriate to the time period. The stretcher was a little loose in the frame so a couple modern screws were added to the back of the frame to better secure the painting. This can be easily changed should someone wish to. The painting is unsigned but seems pretty well done. Framed it is 25.5 tall and 17.5. Not much of any issues at all for its age, just one little stretcher edge split in the canvas as pictured… About 3/4 long and some lite finish wear. This painting will make a nice addition to any folk art collection or to any wall in general. Its a nice find! Any questions PLEASE ask!
