This important historic one-of-a-kind mid to late 19Th century European hand carved and painted wooden deer amusement ride is one of the earliest produced for children’s carousels or merry-go-rounds and would have been at a fair or carnival. It’s truly a museum quality piece and has been owned and displayed in one for decades. Hand carved wood, two-sided, original paint with beautiful coloring and detail, resting on a cast iron base, all make this the perfect unique, attractive one-of-a kind decorative piece. It has been owned and featured in numerous exhibits in the museum for decades. Retains location tag from the museum. This is from one of the earliest examples of the modern platform style carousel, called dobbies, that were invented in the mid 19th century. 19th Century Document Box in Wonderful Dry Oxidized Blue Paint Folk Art AAFA

This is a beautiful little 19th century document box with nice dry oxidized blue paint. The hasp and lock and bail handle are original. The brass rosettes on the handle are make-due additions. The box has its original dust seal and is lined with old wallpaper. The brass hinges are replacements. The blue paint is not old but has a nice dry powdery surface. The dimensions are: 9″ wide x 4-3/4″ tall x 5-1/2 deep (front to back). Please review all of the pictures and ask any questions that you might have. Check my feedback too! Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880’s A wonderful small Norwegian kiste, or dome top blanket chest with a nicely decorated decoration on the front and dome topped with a beautiful comb paint surrounding the rest of the chest. Rosemaling (rose painting) designs and lettering. A lock is present as is the key which is a giant plus. The outer edge of this box has text painted in black. The early script is defining this as Norwegian…. If I’m incorrect please let me know. The piece is painted in the traditional manner of decorated items familiar to this era and regions. It has a natural interior with wonderful heavy ironwork hinges. Ironwork and peg construction can be seen in close-up photo. The dome top is decorated with a strong design consisting. The chest is 15 by 10 by 9.5 The overall condition of the piece is quite good and again, so very attractive. It is structurally very solid and well built. The top is still tightly attached and the hinges are holding strong. One decorative interior iron looks as the tip is broken off. The painted surface is in excellent condition although the piece has an early, old re-paint over the original by the owners descendants, and shows a light coat of shellacking and as a result protected the surface through the many years. My flash doesn’t due the piece justice. This box is as nice as they get. Very hard to find and you will wait a long time before you find another this appealing and with a working lock and key. Perfect size for almost any space. Perfect for the Scandinavian decor or as a gift. Thanks for looking and as always, visit often! The item “19th c.
