Antique Primitive Fishing Lure Folk Art Jointed Hand Painted Fish Decoy. I’m pleased to offer this large and very early 3-hook jointed pike fishing lure. 3-pc carved wood body and jointed with forged iron straps and square rivet pins. Retains it’s original hardware and hand painted design. Crackle surface patina and traces of original gold leaf. Probably 19th century, a true work of folk art Americana! Unknown maker but clearly from a master workshop. Likely a small regional maker and produced in scarce numbers. MID-19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE INDIAN SARANGI HAND PAINTED FIGURATIVE FOLK ART BANJIRA STRING INSTRUMENT (ORIG BOW MISSING). Mid-19th c hand carved & hand painted antique Indian string wooden instruments. 22 ¼” Length x 6 ½” Width x 4 Depth. Mid-19th century Indian Sarangi 17 string antique Banjira instrument, with the bow now missing. One upper wooden knob to the right side was broken off. But all strings are complete and still intact. Some scuffs and some minor paint loss. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. Apart from the original bow now being separated from the main instrument and now unavailable, the instrument itself is in exceptionally well-preserved overall antique condition. It’s an extraordinary piece and has exquisite wood hand carving, as well as over-the-top, incredibly accomplished, detailed and well-realized, hand painted figuration on the front lower and upper body, as well as covering the curved lower body of the back of the instrument. An incredible early instrument with absolutely outstanding original, hand painted surfaces. It remains as it was found and in 100% original antique condition. Incredibly, all strings are still present and the wooden case doesn’t suffer from any drying, warping, noticeable dents, dings, water damage, unsightly stains, flea-bites to any of its edges, fractures, repairs or loss. The painted Indian figures, in traditional, period dress, ordain the front, as well as back of the piece. The painted surfaces are crazed and crackled with age. The wood knobs are dry. About as beautiful an object as any mere mortal could possibly ask for. A veritable gift from the gods. Here is a wonderful primitive 19th Century watercolor of a mother and her child from Maine 1830. As you can see there is plenty of color and detail in the watercolor. There is a beautiful decorated carpet at their feet. It is in its original grain painted frame. The backing was removed and updated to an acid free black mat and archival corners. The size of the watercolor is 9 X 10 1/2. ” The frame is 12 3/4″ 14 5/8. Provenance is from the Lynn Dingus Collection in Ohio. That is her label on the back of the watercolor. Slayton worked as an itinerant artist in Vermont commissioned by middle – upper class families painting animals, portraits, landscapes etc. The painting is well executed depicting a horse in a field with vegetation & nice blue sky. The painting is signed ME Slayton 1897 in the lower right corner. The painting is also dated 1975 on the back of the canvas. This was most likely done by a restorer who was either commissioned to repair the painting or clean it. RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND CARVED, HAND. PAINTED KINETIC WOODEN DOWEL HINGED. WOOD DOLL, WITHOUT ORIGINAL. 19th century Ame ri can antique hand carved & paint decorated hinged wooden figurative dolls. 12″ Height x 2 ½” Width x 2 ¾ Depth. Absolutely untouched and undisturbed overall antique condition and recently discovered in a New England estate. It remains in wonderfully well-preserved overall condition, without its original fabric period clothing but with its painted head and painted upper shoulders and neck, largely unscathed and completely intact. All wooden limbs and wood pin hinged legs and arms are fully working, intact and present. The original paint of the doll showcases the anticipated, traditional mid-19th century Victorian female hair style and neckline, where her linen blouse would have began, just where the white paint is seen ending on her upper chest. Her hair is cleanly parted down the middle and the two sides hide her ears, in the traditional, modest and still largely Puritan sensibility toward the sublimation of a woman’s natural beauty, where ears were regarded as too erotic and sexual to show and reveal. Hands and feet are sublimated to the larger forms of arms and legs. Blue and red paint are used for the lips and eyes. The wood has a naturally aged, dry finish and the enamel paint is largely intact, free of flaking or diminishment that the harmful effects of sunlight, heat or cold regularly cause such old and antique painted wooden items. Simply extraordinary and an exquisite and magnificent example of mid-19th century Ame ri can hand carved and hand painted figurative wooden folk art. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
