Beautiful and authentic Mexican ex-voto retablo, hand-painted on tin and dated May 5, 1937, from Mexicali, Mexico. This devotional painting depicts Santo Niño de Atocha appearing to aid the gravely ill child Bernardo Vázquez, whose father invoked the saint for healing. In gratitude for the recovery, Virginia Vázquez dedicated this retablo, as written in the handwritten inscription. This is a genuine early 20th-century Mexican folk-art piece with classic imagery: glowing clouds, a bedside scene, and a clearly legible narrative text. The surface shows the expected patina, oxidation, and nail holes consistent with authentic retablos of this era.
