Antique Original Folk Art Painting A young girl named Betty in a garden , gathering flowers. The text painted at the left is a poem. The girl , Betty , has a lisp : Why do you pass the roses Dear, That in the garden grow? Don’t you like the hollyhocks all standing in a row? Yeth said Betty with a lisp , Then in a puzzled way , I geth I like the daithies besthst because they like to play. ” Signed at the lower-right, ” E. Undated, however this was painted in the late 1800’s to very early 1900’s. Circa 1890 – 1910. Oil on stretched canvas. Original old nails attach the canvas to the stretcher, and the stretcher to the frame. Stretcher size is 6 3/8″ x 8 7/8″ Antique gilt , decorated picture frame , wood & composition (gesso). Frame size is x 8 1/2″ x 10 7/8″ Old wire hanger at the back. The gilt picture frame has chipping at the corners, signs of age. The canvas is in good condition.
