BIO: Michael has won many honors with his work which has been exhibited in New York, Denver, and Atlanta. The Hurn Museum in Savannah, Georgia presented a One-Man exhibition of his work in 2005 and has a number of his works in their permanent collection. Articles featuring his work have appeared in Southern Living magazine (August 2006) and Better Homes and Gardens (August 2006). A review of his Hurn exhibition in the Savannah Morning News stated, “Michael Banks: Outsider Artist” offers Savannah’s most rewarding and penetrating solo show in recent memory. Description : An antique Stoneware Jug with later painted decoration by 20thC. American Folk Artist, Warner Wrede, Sheffield, MA. The Jug : Molded cylindrical form with eased shoulder, applied handle. Embossed E S & B on the base (New Brighton, PA origin). Each side features a colonial-dressed hunter/soldier figure with a rifle surrounded by symmetrical arrangements of oversized fruits, flowers and foliage. A visually attractive work of art from every angle. WREDE near the base, below the handle. The photos are probably the best description. Background : WC (Warner) Wrede partnered with Peter Ompir in the 1950s and the pair worked together to paint a wide variety of everyday objects. A time consuming, multi-step process requiring up to 2 weeks to complete each piece. No chips, cracks, repaired damage or other excuses. Original 1955 PAINTING FOLK ART 2 MEN HORSES DANCING PHYSICIANS HINDU MYTHOLOGY

Extremely unusual and spectacularly wonderful original 1955 folk art painting depicting two men with horses heads dancing. This painting measures 28″ by 22″ and is painted on an embossed pattern paperboard. It is entitled below: HINDUS MYTHS TWIN ASHVINS PHYSICIANS GODS. It is signed lower right: Norman A Beyerlin February 28 1955 Anderson, Indiana. So I would call this an American folk art rendition of Hindu mythology. The two figures are twin brothers, Ashwini or Ashvin physicians. The two figures are doctors to the Gods in Hindu mythology. With any subject ever in the history of world painting! The painting is in good condition but does have a few small areas of damage and some light spotting and discoloration. None of the damage is enough to detract much from this work. I bought this piece probably 20 years ago out here in the Northwest US with no idea how it arrived here. I put this trim vintage frame around it but this wild thing could be framed all kinds of glorious ways. Questions always welcome and thanks for looking.
