23.5 Mexican Huichol Yarn painting 60-047. Lenght 23.5 inches (59.69 cms). Width 23.5 inches (59.69 cms). Thick 1 inches (2.54 cms). This painting is entirely made with yarn applied with beeswax and resin over a sheet of plywood. There’s a description of the painting written by the artist in the back that reads. In this painting we can see a representation of the sacred gourd bowl with the offerings the shaman bring to the traditional rituals. We can see the arrows, feathers and candlges. They’re being protected by the flames, along with the flowers of the peyote. We can also see the snakes and the deer’s head. In this painting you’ll see a representation of several huichol symbols such as the sacred peyote cactus or kieri, the sacred offerings such as the arrows, candles and the muvieri, and also the deer or maxa. The peyote cactus or “Hikuri”, is a plant that the huichol people keep as their most sacred good used it to open a spiritual connection with their gods. Peyote is the soul of their religious culture and a visionary sacrament that opens a pathway to the other deities. The muvieri is a stick with feathers used by the marakame in their rituals. It’s a mean to contact their gods and receive their messages. It’s also used to heal, predict the future and in blessings. The Huichol believe the deer or Maxa represents the heart and is the gatekeeper and guide to the spirit world. The spirit guide Maxa, who leads the shamans on their visionary pathways and teaches them how to gain their special knowledge. The Huichol represent one of the few remaining indigenous cultures left in Mexico. They live in self-imposed isolation, having chosen long ago to make their home high in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in Western Central Mexico. Huichol Art dates back millenia. During spiritual rituals the shaman (know as marakame) have visions which are then transcribed into carvings, yarn art, bead art, pottery etc. Each image has spiritual meaning. The huichol tribe uses many simbols as representations of their deities and other things they deem sacred in their culture. Most common ones are the peyote, the deer and the snake. African folk outsider art movie poster painted canvas Ghana 18 fatal strikes. 18 FATAL STRIKES Beautiful authentic hand-painted movie poster from Ghana, West Africa. DETAILS FOR THIS FILM AND POSTER: Film: 18 FATAL STRIKE S MARTIAL ARTS / ACTION Poster: Hand Painted in Ghana by ” LEONARDO” for ZAAP Video Size: Art size 62 1/2″ x 43″ (158 cm x 109 cm). Condition: In good condition, with some damages, some repairs, small size holes, in some places the paint is off and signs of wear in the art work due to usage. This is not a print! Its a real oil paint! A real piece of Authentic African Art! This type of posters are highly collectible and many times displayed in Museums all over the world! With the arrival of video and video cassettes during 1980s In Ghana (West Africa) a small-scale film distribution / mobile Cinema was created. This small size mobile “Cinema” operators were equipped with a television a Video and sometimes with a small portable generator and were moving from town to town from village to village operating and showing their films! (During the day inside social clubs or houses and during the night in the open air). In order to attract more customers and in order to advertise their mission and business the need of huge posters was created and born. Talented artists after viewing the film were creating large size posters using oil paint on canvas (Because of unavailability and high cost of imported canvas , The artists were using used flour sacks sewn together). The artist had the freedom to add or change scenes seen or not seen in the film in order to make the poster more attractive (This is the reason that this hand painted posters are more interesting as ART than the normal posters since each of this hand painted poster is UNIQUE and except the film content it also express the artist himself). These posters were rolled or folded and easy to move around with the mobile Cinema. Because of the posters ” hard ” life (Folded or rolled, under the rain and sun and display for several months during their rounds all over Ghana) most of the surviving posters have damage at the end of the canvas, peelings, cracking and other damages. By the mid 1990s the mobile Cinema business declined and almost collapsed since television and video was more widely available in Ghana. The profits of the mobile Cinema operators were also reduced and they were not able to afford the “expensive” talented artists to paint their posters anymore. At the present days they have to rely with Photocopy paper posters in order to survive and reduce cost. Vintage carnival game wheel. Hand painted and made of wood and what appears to be an old bicycle rim & spokes. Numbers 1 through 40 (so you don’t have to count). Looks like one of a kind not made in mass production, therefore the term “primitive”. Rare (I use this term in my items because it is so overused, although in this case it may apply). Some paint has chipped off, see images. Authentic, real deal, not a reproduction. Appears to be signed “St Marys”; I don’t think St. Mary made it, but who knows. Outside diameter of wheel is just over 30. Ask any questions you have. The item “Antique Carnival Game of Chance Gambling Wheel Hand Painted Wood Folk Art Rare” is in sale since Tuesday, July 3, 2018.
