Up for sale is an Original Painting of 1930s NYC SUBWAY RIDERS by listed artist WILLIAM “BILL” MARLIEB. This colorful Folk Art piece is acrylic paint on canvas that has been beautifully framed. MARLIEB’02 in lower right corner. Image area measures 15 1/2″ by 19 1/2″ and the frame measures 22 1/2″ by 26″. Please check out all the pics. Bill Marlieb is a fourth generation New Yorker. He now lives in Wilsonville’s Charbonneau, Oregon. He graduated from New York School of Industrial Art and studied at the Art Students League and the Mew School of Social Research. He also studied under New York painters Leo Russell and Judith Epstein.

This offering is for an antique circa 1930’s to 40’s folk art hand painted sign. The sign reads COUNTY RECORDER on one side only and it appears to have been connected to a post at some point. The length is app. 16″ long and 12″ high. The sign is made of heavy metal which I think is probably sheet iron. The condition is excellent as seen in our photo’s with no bends, breaks, dents or repairs. The painted surfaces have minor losses as should be expected but nothing severe. Original and authentic circa 1930s-40s hand painted, folky Art Deco wooden trade sign with a lady’s head. Both sides show significant wear which is also part of the aesthetic appeal. There is overall cracquelure in the paint and one side has loss on the woman’s head. There looks like a little bit of touch up to the black only, just in a few letters. The wood is plywood and the lettering is copied from a common porcelain beauty parlor sign that does not have a lady’s head or any other image. One of a kind and totally unique. Vintage 1930s Painted Leather Folk Art Circus Elephant Harness Headdress

Marvelous surface, vibrant medallion in red with green letter O and screaming yellow paint remnants on straps. Diamond centered on the animals head (O likely referring to the circus name), the other straps held together by an absent lash. Medallion measures 12 H x 9 W, 30 straps and 36 at the longest. Supple and stable, stitching has let go a few places (see detail photos). Difficult to photograph, please see photos and ask questions. Scarce – graphic – piece, thanks much for looking.
