Overall great folk look. It is very thick in areas and has cracked. There is one small area in upper left corner that has lost some paint. The rest of the paint feels very secure. 19 3/4 x 27 3/4in. THE LAST PIECE, LIKE MOST PIECES YOU SEE, WAS AN ORIGINAL PAINTING ON BOARD THAT HUNG ON THE WALL. THIS IS SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED ON THE UNDERSIDE, THIS WAS A WOOD STOOL THAT THE ARTIST PAINTED FOR A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR A CLOSE FRIEND. BEING DATED 1967 THIS IS AN EARLIER PIECE BY THE ARTIST. THE STOOL MEASURES 10 1/2 X 10 1/2 X 16 INCHES. THE TOP IS PAINTED WITH A GREAT FOLK ART FARM AND ESTATE SCENE. Original vintage WPA wooden sign. This is a true piece of Americana. The Works Progress Administration was formed in 1935 and the name was changed in 1939 to The Work Projects Administration. The WPA was formed to provide paid jobs for over three million unemployed men. Roads and bridges were built and the government employed artists, writers, and musicians as well. This sign and others like it hung on public buildings in the U. Where projects were organized. This example is in excellent shape retaining most of the red, white, and blue paint.
