19th Century American Antique Landscape/Seascape Painting On Canvas. Canvas measures about 23″ x 34 1/2″. NOTE: SHIPS WITHOUT THE FRAME, FRAME IS TOO DAMAGED AND IS JUST TO SHOW HOW WE GOT IT. Oil on stretched canvas. The canvas has nice heavy paint texture throughout. Some alligatoring (craquelure) in spots, and one small tear/hole in sky. May have older touch ups in sky. Has some light paint overspray, (tiny white specks resting on surface) from careless housepainters painting near it sometime in its past. Could be professionally cleaned off if you ever had it cleaned. We have not cleaned it as the losses are somewhat expected being a 120+ year old painting. And they do not detract from everyday enjoyment at normal viewing distances. The painting has a great overall patina and aura about it, and will surely add interest to your home decor. Here is a WONDERFUL ANTIQUE LARGE WOODEN MODEL SLOOP SAILING BOAT OR POND BOAT NAMED THE ALBATROSS. MEDFORD with EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL CUSTOM-MADE PAINT-DECORATED STAND WITH NICE LIGHTHOUSE SEASCAPE PAINTING AND PINSTRIPING ON RED. Model looks to be c. 1900 vintage or thereabouts. I assume the town name refers to Medford, Massachusetts. Boat, including the stand, is 44-3/4″ tall and hull is 31-7/8″ long. The boat and stand in mostly old surface with original c. 1900 coastal seascape painting on the stand. The stand is original to the boat. The painting on the stand even looks like it has this boat sailing in the water with lighthouse in background. A couple of broken strings on the mast. The hull is made out of a solid piece of wood. The sail looks like it is probably a more recent replacement since it is so white looking. The mast is in good unbroken condition. Great old model boat. You will need a small precision screwdriver and tool to reattach the tiny bolt and nut on side of boat on your end. Look for my other nice Old Items I will be listing as well this week. Painting is unsigned but has a very charming tonal quality of low light at the end or beginning of the day. Painting comes with the original solid oak frame. This fantastic antique whale hunting scene is an oil painting on wood. It is acopy of a famous lithograph done in 1853 by Louis Le Breton titled “Peche a la Baleine” Whaling near the Cape of Good Hope. It is s igned, by the artist with his logo. I can’t make out the exact lettering of it. The paint is thick, heavy, oil based paint on wood boards. Named after a Mohegan Sachem. Also there is a town today called Uncasville, CT. Several other Yankee whalers were named for local Native Americans of prominence including Awashonks, Metacom, and Massasoit. There are 2 whales actually in the scene. One in foreground, one in background right. Middle one you can see them lowering the dinghy boat with hunters in it to get closer to the whale. Seagulls in the air. Sailors are everywhere on each boat. American flag with 36 stars dates the flag to 1865. On the Man of War Pendant is the ships name’UNCAS’ shown backwards. The other flag I believe is Dunkirk France. Location might be in the Azores is a guess. ? It’s big and heavy and an amazing piece with excellent quality, perspective and detail.
