REDUCED! Vintage 1977 FOLK ART Carved & Painted WHIRLIGIG/Wood Chopper/ALVIN HALL

This is a whimsical whirligig made & signed by ALVIN L. I used to live for a time in the St. Louis area and came upon Mr. Hall and his yard of whirligigs with a FOR SALE sign on his fence. He and his wife were retired and moving to Florida and he could not take his hobby whirligigs. This one is “Man Chopping Wood” and was made in 1977 and is typical of his personal style. The length of this whirligig is 36″ and the wooden propellers are 15&1/2″ across. The wood painted tail of the whirligig measures 12″ x 8″. The man is nicely carved and is 8 from his boots to the top of his hat. Hall showed me his little backyard workshop shed where he worked with simple hand tools to make his wind machines. NOTICE how when the wind moves the propeller (he has added thin metal and curved it to get more of the wind), it is attached to a metal shaft which then is bent so it goes in a rotation and Mr. Hall designed the chopper so that his upper body pivots up and down thereby “chopping his wood with his ax”. This American folk art whirligig is in mild weathered condition but that is part of the charm. It works perfectly and has no issues. I will create packaging that will be able to protect the piece during transport. The item “REDUCED! Scandinavian Folk Art Tine Bent Box 19th Century Painted. Circa 1890 1920 made in Norway, Denmark or Sweden, it is made from thin pieces of steam bentwood, laced together with tree root twisted handmade rope. It has two vertical posts to hold the lid. To open you lightly pull apart the side posts, then the lid is loose to open. It has the original folk art painting done on both sides. It has an old restoration on one wing, otherwise in good condition. I see two screws one on each end to hold the posts. Old looking and clean on the inside, The handle is held on the a thin piece of wood. It has a thick patina on the lid. Wooden pegs are showing on the bottom. It measures 11 ½ inches long x 4 inches wide 3 inches tall, and 1 inch for the handle. Early 1900’s Folk Art Hand Carved Hand Painted Guinea Bird

Offering this wonderful and unusual small hand carved and hand painted guinea bird dating from the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. Guinea birds are very rarely the subject of carvers, who most often carve song bird, water birds and prey birds, making this quite an unusual and delightful find! This is skillfully and realistically carved and painted down to the most minute detail. It stands just 5″ tall and about 4″ from beak to tail. It shows some minor wear to the wood legs (see photos) and light wear to the paint finish, some minor flaking of the paint revealing the wood underneath. For its age, it’s in great condition and displays well. Obviously from a talented artist, it is unmarked. This was found in Southern Pennsylvania and I believe it to be a local piece. Early Aafa Folk Art Antique Original Hand Painted Mustard Wall Cabinet Wood

EARLY AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED MUSTARD WALL CABINET WOOD. Up for sale is this wonderful single door wall cabinet. It’s all hand painted in a deep mustard color and has tremendous patina, crackling and wear. The cabinet measures 24.25″ high to the top and 20.5″ wide at the top. 5 wide at the cabinet. Deep at trim and 8. Oor is 15″ wide and 19.75″ high. On the front it has a little twist latch and catch. That’s been painted over. The hinges are Shaker style hinges as you can see from the pictures. There are some holes on the front where there may have been other hinges at some other time, we’re not sure as there are only two holes in the cabinet for the top pair and there are no other holes on the door. We’d not sure what that’s about. It has a cute little scalloped dental / crown moulding at the top. Inside there are two shelves. The back is made from four tongue and groove boards. The top two were painted and are chipping. The bottom two are not painted as you can see. The paint appears to be all original and is dry, faded, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn, alligator-ed and patina-ed! Underneath the mustard color you can see a lighter, cream color. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! Please see photos for accurate detail and description.
