The rich dark carved wood with leaf motif at the border contrasts gorgeously with the vivid color palette of Mayan children carrying goods in their heads. Original 1970 Manuel Lepe Naive Primitive Mexican Folk Art Painting

Original 1970 Manuel Lepe Naive Primitive Mexican Folk Art Painting. This is a beautiful and classic Manuel Lepe naive primitive watercolor painting of Puerto Vallarta dated 1970 by the artist. Overall, this painting is in excellent original condition. The colors are still vibrant. There might be a little fading to the black stroke outlines throughout the painting, but it still presents very nicely. The only condition issue that I can find to mention is what appears to be a graphite(pencil) mark or smudge in the upper right white margin area. I’ve provided a close up shot of this below. Otherwise, there’s no water stains or other damage issues to mention. This painting is framed and under plexiglass. The frame appears to be quartersawn oak and has a nice early 70s era look to it. As you can see, the outer edge of a trim piece attached to the frame has been painted. I would personally remove that paint and keep this original frame, but I will leave that to the next owner. The frame and all measures 31 9/16 inches in length by 25 9/16 inches in width. The artwork in the frame measures 27 1/2 inches by 21 3/4 inches. I have not removed this piece from the frame, so it’s possible the measurements are a little different outside the frame. Also, as you can see in the bottom picture there’s what appears to be some strawberry jelly stains dripping down the backside. I apologize for this. I’ve scraped this off as best I can, but the stains are still there. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS. I strive to receive 5/5!! That’s they’re new system. Heavier items will cost more. So I do sometimes add a couple of dollars to the cost to cover myself. I guarantee everything I sell. However, I go to great lengths to provide correct measurements and nice big pictures of every detail. If you fail to do so, or the piece doesn’t fit properly, I’m sorry, but there’s nothing I can do. Antique Naive / Folk Art Tonalist Oil Painting Cows Drinking from River

This is a lovely antique Tonalist / Folk Art oil on academy board painting done by an unknown but talented artist in the 1890’s – it depicts three cows standing in a river drinking water with a couple of cows standing at the edge of the river – there are some ducks swimming in the river near the cows – most of this antique painting shows excellent scale for the gorgeous foliage & trees as well as the mountains in the background as well as the incredible multi-colored clouds in the sky. Essentially, this is a beautiful naive bucolic twilight river landscape where the artist created a Tonalist style in this painting by using a blend of striking pinkish & purple off-white clouds to show the effect of the setting sun on the numerous clouds floating in pale blue sky – the artist also created an upper gray-green strata of storm clouds possibly coming to the bucolic scene in the near future – the impact of the multi-color clouds in the pale blue sky is quite dramatic to the viewer – the artist also did a decent job in depicting the shadows on the mountains in the background to include a very purple-shadowed mountain in the far background – the artist was quite accomplished in his depiction of the mid-summer green foliage where the huge trees & bushes are as good as I have seen in an antique oil painting. When I first bought the painting, it was incredibly dirty & soiled – you could not even see the two cows standing by the river, nor were the ducks visible – the colors in the sky were very dark & indistinct – the furthest mountain was not discernable – I had the painting professionally cleaned & re-varnished to bring out the colors & the subjects that the 19th century artist had intended for this painting – the Academy Board upon which the painting was done is straight & flat – the painting itself is generous in size as it measures 18″ x 24″ sight size & is in very good antique condition – it is surrounded by what appears to be its original black walnut frame with a gilded interior border – it is in good antique condition & measures 20″ x 26″.
