H 53 cm, W 33 cm. Patachitra (Patua) known for its brilliant play of colours, is a folk art form of rural Bengal that has been in existence for many centuries. The word Pata from the Sanskrit word Patta meaning cloth. Patachitra are charactrised by religious or social motifs and images painted with vegetable dyes fixed with a vegetable gum on paper and fabric from old saris is glued to the back to strengthen the scroll. Rained in the traditional Patua form of folk art by her father and uncle, hails from West Bengal in India.
