Wonderful early period wooden fool in fabulous condition. Well intact, only minor paint loss, gorgeous period garb, fully jointed and articulates well. I’m surprised that the pig tails have managed to stay intact, but they are. Please use photos and zoom feature for most accurate condition. Measures 9 5/8 tall. Description: A nice framed Folk Art reverse painted on glass of a young girl standing with doll in hand. This reverse painted piece by David W. Gottshall of Womelsdorf, Pennsylvania is signed and dated lower left corner. The scene shows a young girl in a long blue dress and red shoes. The girl has black hair and she is holding a doll in one hand with another toy with a red balloon attached to it in the other. There is a brown cat above her, green leaves all around, and red tulips below her and just next to the doll. There is also a blue bird by her left foot. The painting is on turquoise background and is framed in a brown painted wood frame. The piece has a brown cardboard backing and a wire extending across to hang from. A colorful painting all done in reverse on glass. It is in great condition ready to hang on your wall. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Size: The piece measures 9″ by 6 3/4″ and weighs about 10 ounces. Marks: Signed DWG 76 lower left corner. Distinguishing Characteristics – Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece of a modern folk art hand painted by an accomplished folk artist. It would make a nice decorative piece or a great addition to your collection. Condition: The piece is in very good condition with no losses and the frame is in very good condition. The backing is in very good condition. However, we believe it is a new replacement and not original to the piece. The one thing we see is some brown paint on the glass, suggesting the frame may have been painted while in place. However, this is minimal, difficult to see, and can be cleaned if you so desire. The drawing is well done with no damage or losses. The frame has a few minor scratches and several small and minor nicks but these issues do not distract from its beauty or quality. She is carved in jointed pine wood. Her face with red lips and piercing gaze is hand painted. Dark hair, white gloves and stockings are also hand painted. The lovely smock she wears is hand sewn with. Tiny stitches and embellished with a fine lace ruff, sleeves and hem. In original as found condition with some. This rare early survivor would be neat in any doll or Americana collection. This is an early 16 1/2 inch American Cloth doll with oil painted head. The seam runs down both sides and down the back of the head. The hair and facial features are very nicely painted. The body is cloth with separately stitched fingers. Painted areas show wear, but is all original. Dressed in her original hand stitched dress, apron and socks have been replaced.
