Barrington, but not sure. Housed in a simple oak frame. Sight size is 9 1/2″ x 11 1/2″. Frame is 12 1/4″ x 15 1/2″. Some wear and discoloration to outer sides of frame. Frame is sturdy though. Antique Aafa Folk Art Double Sided Checkerboard Game Board Original Paint Red

ANTIQUE AAFA FOLK ART DOUBLE SIDED CHECKERBOARD ORIGINAL PAINT RED AND WHITE. Up for sale is this old hand painted checkerboard. It has a great folk art feel to it! The board is red and white with worn edges, paint loss and hand wear. The gaming part has beautiful bright red with white color alternating squares. The board is a 12 x 12 game field. It appears to be made from one large piece of wood with a couple of cracks in it. It measures 29″ L x 18″ W and is about 1.25 thick. It weighs about 7 lbs. There are two newer picture hangers on the back side to hang the checkerboard on the wall. You can see this in the pictures. Also on the back is a game. We don’t know what the game is, but it’s black rectilinear lines with a cross looking thing in the center of the board. This side also has worn edges, scrapes and hand wear. This is a GREAT double-sided game board!! As mentioned, there’s some edge wear, paint loss, nicks, scrapes, scratches and dings. Also, at the side of each players side, there was probably a small wood trim that would separate their checkers from the playing field. The paint is missing along this thin line as you can see in the pictures. All of these “issues” are just as you’d expect from and item of this age… It’s still just fabulous!!! Old and original paint and patina. No paint in the cracks. The cracks visible are separations in the joints of the board. It would be an easy fix if someone chose to re-glued the joints. AAFA FOLK ART SINGLE SIDED GAME CHECKER BOARD RED BLACK PAINT GREAT COLOR. Up for sale is this old hand-painted checker / game board. It has a great folk art feel to it! The board is a dark red with black squares and trim and there is paint loss, edgewear and handwear. The game is on what might be a masonite board with a wood frame as we hope you can see in the pictures. There’s a warp in the board as it goes over the board in the middle of the back. We tried to show the warp in the pictures so please look at them closely. We don’t know when the game was painted on but it looks old to us. It’s got great colors! It measures 28.75″ L x 19.5″ W x 1.25 thick. It weighs about 4 lbs. As mentioned, there’s some paint loss, nicks, scrapes, scratches, worn edges, deteriorated wood, and dings. Born into slavery, Traylor spent the majority of his life after emancipation as a sharecropper. It was only after 1939, following his move to Montgomery. Alabama that Traylor began to draw. At the age of 85, he took up a pencil and a scrap of cardboard to document his recollections and observations. From 1939 to 1942, while working on the sidewalks of Montgomery, Traylor produced nearly 1,500 pieces of art. While Traylor received his first public exhibition in 1940, it wasnt until the late 1970s, thirty years after his death, that his work finally began to receive broader attention. Recent acceptance of Traylor as a significant figure of American folk and modern art has been founded on the efforts of Charles Shannon, as well as the evolving tastes of the art world. Shannon, who first encountered Traylor’s work in 1940, brought Traylor to the attention of the larger art world. Since then, public and scholarly perception of Bill Traylor’s life and work has been in constant evolution. First held up as an example of “primitive” or “outsider” art, Traylor now holds a central position in the fields of “self-taught” and modern art.
