ANTIQUE AAFA FOLK ART DOUBLE SIDED CHECKERBOARD ORIGINAL PAINT SALMON RED BLACK. Up for sale is this old hand painted checkerboard. It has a great folk art feel to it! The board has a wood frame around it with the game board in the middle. The game board has black (slightly dark blue tint in places) squares with reddish / salmon colored squares. The checkerboard has worn edges, paint loss, fading, separation, surface cracks and hand wear. The board is an 8 x 8 game field. It appears to be made from one large piece of wood. It measures 15″ L x 15″ W and is about 1 thick at the edges. The back side is a game board also. That side has a Parcheesi? Board painted on it with the some. Green area gaming sections. This side also has worn edges, scrapes, round indentations on the surface, paint loss and hand wear. This is a very nice double-sided game board!! As mentioned, there’s some edge wear, paint loss, nicks, scrapes, splatters, scratches and dings. There are also some areas where the surface of the board has lifted a little. All of these “issues” are just as you’d expect from and item of this age… It’s still just fabulous!!! It’s a very nice piece for your collection. Thank you for looking at this item. This Extremely Rare Piece of Respected Black Americana History. Came from an Estate Find Years Ago. This Hand Painted and Hand Crafted Piece is Over a Hundred Years Old. Just the Paint, and Patina would Qualify that. It Represents a Funner Time of History, and by NO Means is it a Racial Representation, and Never Be Considered So. IT IS A PIECE OF ART, and Should be Displayed with Pride. Yes the Character is a Little Not to Scale, but was Made in the Era where Black History, as well as Any other Race was a Bit Cartoon-ish. The Gentleman is Well Dressed, and Could have Possibly been a Servant, or a Wealthy Land Owner. Has Crackling in the Paint, with Scuffs, and Chips. It has a Piece of Steel Mounted to the Base, as it was used as a Paperweight. And Measures 12″ H, and 6″ W, 1/4 wide. That Told me I had a Valuable Piece. They started calling around to other Appraisers, and it was the Talk of The Hour. I’m Glad I Didn’t sell it That Day. The Price mat Seem a Little High, But I’m sure it has a Much Greater Value. This is a late 19th to early 20th century hand carved and painted whirligig or weathervane depicting a young slave or farmhand. It has an excellent weathered patina with the original paint. It measures approximately 16″ high, 16″ wide, with a 1.5 depth at the propeller. There are losses to the paint, figure, arrow, and propeller. Later screws are visible under the arrow, and traces of glue are visible at the arrow point. It fits a 1/4 rod for support. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you for viewing my listings.
