Antique Black Americana hand-painted folk art advertising sign found in Mass/R. All original, round head nails early 20th century. A true cornerstone to any Americana collection. All original untouched as found, absolutely no in painting. The face of the sign has 2 original mounting holes used to mount sign on post. The sign has been in Northern R. Doctors home for the last sixty years and supposedly came from a Mass/R. Simple google search revealed many Hillhurst farms in existence. This farm may not still exist. The sign has an amazing presence when seen in person. It is a very good piece of early american advertising. Some flaking, small splits everything you expect. Sign fashioned out of original watermelon crate lid. Rare piece of black Americana that you will not find again. The dimension of the sign is 24 inches by 30 inches. This folky / primitive style painting that. Is very interesting because the perspective is not quite right however you can see Charleston Harbor in the back ground and the church steeples. Moultree is to the right as well as the Merrimack Submarine. There is a celebration going on with all the different ships and sailing boats in the harbor. As you can see there is a large stain that comes down from the top I believe this can be removed. It is very unique painting with a very interesting and rare scene of a celebration at Fort Sumter. A wonderful piece of Americana folk art.. Microscopic analysis of the wood proves it to be white pine. What a proud looking rooster he is! Totally hand carved with excellent detail. The glass eyes look amazing. This old boy has earned some war wounds in his days, the back part of his comb is missing. (of course, it will never show if you display it properly). I restore fine antiques and I restored the legs back to the base, they were loose and one was cracked at the base, it is now rock solid. Of course the wood has some age related shrinkage cracks, mostly in the base and on the underside of the rooster. The rich colors and patina are outstanding. I love the detail of the feet/claws, right down to the black tips on the claws, excellent! This is a rare and beautiful work of art. All the best, Bryan. From tail to chest…. 4 X 4 3/4. Original Black Americana Folk Art Naive Painting. Woman Dreaming On Picket Fence

For sale is an outstanding early 20th century black Americana naïve folk art style oil painting. From a Maryland Private estate. One “gets” this painting almost immediately when viewing it. The woman stands against the country picket fence looking up towards the sky while wearing her Sunday best black and white checkered dress. Her mind wondering off, dreaming of a better life. Perhaps she is thinking about being an actress or a singer in a hopping jazz club somewhere in New York or Chicago. Or a dancer touring the world with a dance troupe visiting Paris and the other major European cities that she only reads about in books and newspapers. She may just be dreaming of a little simpler life not consumed with the daily rugged chores of living on a rural farm which consists of work from sun up until sundown. You can tell that while content with her simple life on a southern farm she hopes and dreams for so much more for herself. In her eyes you can see this dream may never come to be. But she dreams the dream. On the porch either a husband or one of her children leisurely strums a tune on the banjo. Two ducks seem to enjoy her company by the picket fence in the foreground. This painting is signed in the lower right corner. Like many Black Americana paintings the artist cannot be found in our research. This painting is oil on hard stock paper board. It appears to be dated on the reverse either 4/3/11, or 4/23/41. We cannot tell accurately. Please see the close-up detail picture for consideration. Condition: The painting being in overall good condition for age. Some yellowing of the surface varnish but over all good for age. Some small areas of paint surface lost on the outer edges near the frame contact area. The frame having age-appropriate wear with numerous layers of built-up varnish coatings.
