A wonderful portrait, entitled’Zoe’ by the British artist Dorothy Morton. With charcoal detail and bursts on bold colour. Well presented in a grey card mount and duck egg blue frame with gilt detail. Handwritten label to the reverse gives the title and artist’s name. Signed with initials to the lower right. In fine condition overall. Very minor scuffs to the corners of the frame. Painter in oil, watercolour and gouache. Morton attended Art Teachers Training College in Clapham and studied with Archibald Standish Hartrick and Dora Billington at the Central School of Arts and Crafts before and during World War II. She joined the Cambridge Drawing Society, Colchester Art Society, Sudbury Art Society and Gainsborough House Print Workshop. Her group shows included venues such as the Minories, Colchester. Her one-person shows included a retrospective exhibition at Bury St. Edmunds Art Gallery in 1983. Her work is represented in the collection of The Leys School, Cambridge.
