The vibrant paint colors and floral design were traditional folk-art style elements during the 1800’s, in Hungary. The casework is pine painted in a deep reddish brown, with accents of red, yellow, green and black. This piece is in exceptional condition – dated 1875 – likely created as a wedding gift. Up for sale is this lovely antique 1839 manuscript poetry & art book belonging to one Abel Wagstaff. The book is softcover, bound in marbled paper covers. It consists of 15 leaves, all of which have handwritten or hand painted content. The content is on the rectos only. The first leaf has an ornate handwritten calligraphy title page. Six of the pages have original watercolor paintings, two of which are in color, the others are in black and white. The remaining 8 pages contain handwritten poems. Most of the pages are detached from the binding, the rest are only tentatively attached by one binding string. The covers are mostly just acting as a portfolio for the pages. All of the pages are depicted in the photos. The book is folio-sized, measuring approximately 15 inches high and 9 5/8 inches high. It is British in origin. A fun and atmospheric oil interior of a 17th Century inn with three patrons smoking pipes and drinking together. The artist has inscribed with A. Brauwer at the lower right corner and the painting has been presented in a handsome gilt effect frame with elaborate foliate molding and a gilt effect slip. The frame has some areas of restoration and a contemporary gilt effect finish applied. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. 1605, in Oudenaarde January 1638, in Antwerp was a Flemish painter active in Flanders and the Dutch Republic in the first half of the 17th century. Brouwer was an important innovator of genre painting through his vivid depictions of peasants, soldiers and other “lower class” individuals engaged in drinking, smoking, card or dice playing, fighting, music making etc. In taverns or rural settings. Early Aafa Folk Art Antique Wood Carnival Game Wheel Bicycle Original Paint

EARLY AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE CARNIVAL GAMING WHEEL GAME OF CHANCE WOODEN BICYCLE WHEEL. The wheel itself is all original with some nicks and scuffs here or there. We’re guessing that this is from the early 1900’s but we don’t know. On one side it’s yellow with black letters and blue trim. On the other side, you can pretty much just see the yellow wood part. The numbers on the front side range from 1 to 120 and start with 1, 21, 41, 61, 81, and 101, then 2, 22, 42, etc. We don’t know what game this would have been but this old wheel, mounted on a bicycle rim has great character and charm! The wheel measures 31.5 across and weighs about 8.5 lbs. The bicycle wheel measures 25 across. The pins around the wheel are metal, rust, strong and even somewhat sharp if you catch them wrong. The paint on the wheel is crazed, alligator-ed, worn, scuffed, nicked, marked and patina-ed… Just the way we love it! The bicycle wheel and the spokes are rusty, crazed and scuffed. The outside rim of the bicycle wheel is wood… Which could date it from as far back 1869 when they started making bicycle wheels made from metal spokes and wooden rims. Later, the rims went to metal so it’s likely that at some point, someone took an old wheel and made this game wheel. We don’t know the age of this item but we wish it could talk! This offering is for an antique circa 1930’s to 40’s folk art hand painted sign. The sign reads COUNTY RECORDER on one side only and it appears to have been connected to a post at some point. The length is app. 16″ long and 12″ high. The sign is made of heavy metal which I think is probably sheet iron. The condition is excellent as seen in our photo’s with no bends, breaks, dents or repairs. The painted surfaces have minor losses as should be expected but nothing severe.
