Howard Finster Youth of Jesus -Outsider Folk Art. 20,189 works since 1976 by Howard Finster July 24, 1991. Howard Finster (1916- 2001). Original Catalogue # 918. With 7 small angels around small trees. Predominate colors in blue, pink , and black. This folk art “cut out devotional” is numbered and is painted by Finster in in tractor enamel on plywood. The front of the piece features a Renaissance styled portrait of Jesus at 12. The portrait has black flowing hair and decorated with Finster’s miniature hallmark angels. On the front is inscribed. He would chat nonstop to his visitors as he worked on a cutout piece of wood- obsessively painting. I photographed him many times. Here is a hand colored photo that took of his pink Cadillac. He was always so friendly. I remember one time when I visited, he gave me a big bowl of plums from his garden. Even as his health failed in the 1990s, Howard remained the folk-art icon as he is today. Up for sale is a beautiful antique American folk art oil painting on board depicting a bald eagle resting on one long tree branch. This painting is unsigned and dates to the early 1900’s measuring in its frame 10.25 x 12.5 inches the painting measures 7.75 x 10 inches. Its gold frame appears to be original and is a favorite style of mine nicely complimenting the work. Painted in a folk / naive manner this early work has nice visible texture to the birds head and tail. ANTIQUE 19th CENTURY AMERICAN FEDERAL CHEST WITH FOLK ART PAINT DECORATION ; A LARGE AMERICAN PINE CHEST OF DRAWERS CIRCA 1825 WITH A WILD FOLK ART PAINTED SURFACE THAT WAS PROBABLY DONE IN THE 1960’s OR 1970’s. PROBABLY INSPIRED BY SOME MUSEUM FOLK ART CHEST. PLEASE LOOK AT PICS CAREFULLY FOR DAMAGE. THE CASE IS IN GOOD CONDITION, BUT I BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE TRIED TO DISTRESS THE DRAWER FRONTS AS THEY HAVE MORE WEAR THAN FROM NORMAL USE. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CHEST HAS A SPLIT IN THE TWO BOARDS ALONG THE GLUE JOINT. THERE IS A LARGE CHUNK MISSING FROM THE TOP AS SEEN IN THE PICS. Alice Hines American , b. 1916 – 2009 Alice was born February 13, 1916, in Longview, Texas, the daughter of Franklin Hollister and Dora Birdwell Hollister. She was raised in Wills Point where she attended public school. On July 7, 1935, she married Angus O. Hines in Wills Point. Early in her life, she was employed by Rose Dry Goods and later, Mayfield Dry Goods in Wills Point. She enjoyed folk art painting and quilting. Alice was a faithful member of the Wills Point Church of Christ where she was active until her health failed. Up for sale is this Super Old Blue Paint Country Folk Art Wooden Tool Carrier Inv#JA01. This beautifully handcrafted carpenters tool box was made by the owner in early 1950’s. Note the exquisite old blue paint that adorns this piece. From age and wear the paint has flaked and crazed at areas giving forth a lovely original appearance and patina (you cannot duplicate this). T It has some white paint splatters (see side photo). It measures 25″ x 16″ x 9. It weighs 10.7lbs unboxed. Th ere is a small slotted piece of wood on the end that was used to stabilize saw blades. It has a beautiful carved handle and small slots for tools. There are rusted screws and nails that are there from day one. Still strong and tight. It has some nicks, dings and wear as would be expected for a toolbox that was used everyday in the life of… (see all photo close-ups). This would be a great addition to your country collection with lots of history to pass on to the next generation.
