Rare Antique Rocking Cradle Carved Wood Original Old Paint Folk Art
Absolutely beautiful and a work of art! Old 19th century antique rocking cradle. Beautifully painted wood in floral and fauna. This is EXTRAORDINARY, original, hand painted finish. Predominantly red background color with painted flowers that adorn the sides and the curved, rocking feet. The cradle is not marked or signed. It is in good, antique condition and has at least on old repair to a scrolled rocker. This doesnt compromise the structural integrity of the cradle and these can be resolved. The cradle rocks smoothly. This is a small cradle designed for a newborn infant or maybe a doll. It is 22 long, and a narrow 7 wide. Please view all photos as they contribute to the description. DESCRIPTION Vintage Peruvian folk art retablo of a veneration festival by artist of the Andes Claudio Jimenez. Hand made using a combination of gypsum and potato this original Peruvian retablo depicts either a festival venerating the Virgen de la Candelaria or celebrating a thanksgiving harvest, and reminiscing the loss of their Inti Raymi solstice festival following the Spanish Conquest. These altar pieces are made as teaching aids as well as documenting every day life in Peru. Claudio Jimenez Quispe is an internationally renowned maker of retablos. Originally from a famous family of retablo makers in Ayacucho, he now works in Lima. His work has been exhibited all over the world, and he frequently demonstrates his exquisite technique, as at Santa Fe’s International Folk Art Market. Other siblings of this famous retablista family are Nicario, Edilberto, Eleudora and Mabilon. Antique FEDERAL GENTLEMAN Folk Oil Portrait Painting GOLD Gilt Frame c1830-40s
Here is a very nice antique gentleman oil portrait painting. It is framed in its original gilt gold , heavy compo/gesso frame. The man has a Napoleon style hair cut and a dark blue jacket on. His inner vest is a light blue and his. The entire piece measures 18 1/4 x 20 1/4 in. The canvas only measures 12 1/8 x 13 7/8 in. Fair/good as is vintage condition. Some gilt paint overlay chipped/worn off in spots. Painting has mild crazing, nail hole thru top right, and bottom right. I say all this but the item dates to the 1830-40s so almost 200 years old soon. Not new, not perfect. The man is painted in a folk art style. All pictures to judge condition.
