Up for sale is this fantastic vintage piece of outsider folk art painting, looks like it may be a theorem. It is signed on the border Mae Ellen Kane or Karse? I was not able to dig up any information in the artist. It looks to be pastels or chalk on linen. Its a very busy painting with tons going, there is a Native American settlement with teepees as well as a few on horseback with headdresses on. There are oxen carts, bears, an eagle, some hunters. This piece is so terrific. Would be perfect in a farmhouse kitchen. Beautiful detail and the best chippy paint which feels like it has a wax type finish on it. Perfect used worn patina. I categorized it as a date of 1900 to 1940 but I could easily be from the late 1800s. A great size measuring approximately 19 inches across 9 inches long and projects approximately 7 inches from the wall. There is a tiny bit of separation between the front of the shelf and the top piece. It doesnt bug me but if it bugs you could tighten it… This is a piece for a lover of old primitive pieces with character. Typically fed ex is less but the app does not reflect the correct price. Mexican Folk Art 17 Wood Dowry Chest Baul Box Colonial Furniture Painted Birds

This is a rare piece and a beautiful example of Mexican / Spanish colonial folk art. It is a hand-made, and hand-painted, barrel top chest (baul) from the state of Guerrero. The chest is intricately painted on all sides with stylized deer and birds and f. Bold colors and a rich waxed finish. There are no hinges. The arched top just sits on the base, but you can easily add a hinge if you want one. Overall the piece measures 13″ tall by 17″ wide and 12 deep. Olinala is famous for its production of fine chests (bauls), gourds and furniture, which are intricately painted. This piece too is from the Rio Balsas river region in Southern Guerrero, home to the Nahua Indians that paint these pieces in the same style as the amate bark paintings. Coffers and chests (bauls) were often intended as dowry chests used to store valuables. A fabulous capsule of colonial culture and indigenous folk art.
