African kente and textiles. Brass / Bronze / Lost wax. Oil paint / Ghana Signboards. Wood and other Artifacts. Art Movie posters Ghana. Tuareg Art and Crafts. Ghana Movie poster African cinema folk wall hand painted NIGHT OF THE DEMONS. NIGHT OF THE DEMONS Beautiful authentic hand-painted movie poster from Ghana, West Africa. DETAILS FOR THIS FILM AND POSTER: Film: NIGHT OF THE DEMONS HORROR Poster: Hand Painted in Ghana by E. A SOJAY for BOMBAY video Club. Art size: 60 1/4″ x 40 1/4″ (153 cm x 102 cm). Condition: In good condition in some places the paint is off and some signs of wear in the art work due to usage. This is not a print! Its a real oil paint! A real piece of Authentic African Art! This type of posters are highly collectible and many times displayed in Museums all over the world! With the arrival of video and video cassettes during 1980s In Ghana (West Africa) a small-scale film distribution / mobile Cinema was created. This small size mobile “Cinema” operators were equipped with a television a Video and sometimes with a small portable generator and were moving from town to town from village to village operating and showing their films! (During the day inside social clubs or houses and during the night in the open air). In order to attract more customers and in order to advertise their mission and business the need of huge posters was created and born. Talented artists after viewing the film were creating large size posters using oil paint on canvas (Because of unavailability and high cost of imported canvas , The artists were using used flour sacks sewn together). The artist had the freedom to add or change scenes seen or not seen in the film in order to make the poster more attractive (This is the reason that this hand painted posters are more interesting as ART than the normal posters since each of this hand painted poster is UNIQUE and except the film content it also express the artist himself). These posters were rolled or folded and easy to move around with the mobile Cinema. Because of the posters ” hard ” life (Folded or rolled, under the rain and sun and display for several months during their rounds all over Ghana) most of the surviving posters have damage at the end of the canvas, peelings, cracking and other damages. By the mid 1990s the mobile Cinema business declined and almost collapsed since television and video was more widely available in Ghana. The profits of the mobile Cinema operators were also reduced and they were not able to afford the “expensive” talented artists to paint their posters anymore. At the present days they have to rely with Photocopy paper posters in order to survive and reduce cost. EARLY AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED MUSTARD WALL CABINET WOOD. Up for sale is this wonderful single door wall cabinet. It’s all hand painted in a deep mustard color and has tremendous patina, crackling and wear. The cabinet measures 24.25″ high to the top and 20.5″ wide at the top. 5 wide at the cabinet. Deep at trim and 8. Oor is 15″ wide and 19.75″ high. On the front it has a little twist latch and catch. That’s been painted over. The hinges are Shaker style hinges as you can see from the pictures. There are some holes on the front where there may have been other hinges at some other time, we’re not sure as there are only two holes in the cabinet for the top pair and there are no other holes on the door. We’d not sure what that’s about. It has a cute little scalloped dental / crown moulding at the top. Inside there are two shelves. The back is made from four tongue and groove boards. The top two were painted and are chipping. The bottom two are not painted as you can see. The paint appears to be all original and is dry, faded, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn, alligator-ed and patina-ed! Underneath the mustard color you can see a lighter, cream color. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. Aafa Antique Folk Art Wall Apothecary Cabinet Cupboard Old Alligator Blue Paint
AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART WALL APOTHECARY CABINET CUPBOARD OLD ALLIGATOR BLUE PAINT. Up for sale is this fabulous old primitive cabinet or cupboard. It’s a nice old 2-door cabinet with 6 little apothecary drawers. It has wonderful scroll work and a great patina with alligator-ed paint! We don’t know how old it is, but it looks early 1800’s to us! The cabinet has beautiful dry chippy robin’s egg blue paint. This old cabinet is a survivor. There are the two doors up above that open up to a cream color on the inside of the doors and a Victorian wall paper on the inside. There are streaks of blue where the painter on the outside was bit generous with the application and some of it bled through the cracks to the inside. The front of the cabinet has all alligatored paint with lots of crackles, roughness and patina. The two doors have a slide latch on the right on the right door and a catch on the left door. Inside the left door there’s a hook and loop to hold the left door shut. The doors have some cream color spots as well as brown wood spots showing through on the right door. The left door has a crack in it but it’s been repaired and is solid but still visible. The doors have Shaker style pin hinges as you can see in the pictures. The drawers are made from thin wood, a little like crates but no writing or labels. The drawers have porcelain knobs and they are a little grungy. And, the generous painter strikes again with drips and paint on the knobs. Under the drawers that cabinet has nice scroll work that extends down below the bottom of the cabinet. In the pictures we have it sitting on a 2×6 to support / level it for picture taking. The right side of the cabinet is the cream color and that is heavily alligatored. The left side is blue like the front but not as alligatored. The back is made board and batten style wood. There’s the thin boards and then at the seams there is a batten to hold them down and together. There are various nails in the back including small round (newer) nails and old rusty nails. The back has scrapes and chips and cracked wood here and there as you can see in the pictures. There are also some of those blue streaks from the generous painter. It’s a wonderful dry wood and is a light blue in color with old worn paint. The paint appears to be all old and the cream color appears to be original with the blue coming in later (but still old) on the front and left side. The paint has grunge. Scrapes, patina, fading, and is dry, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, flaked, nicked, edge-worn. There’s cream and wood colors showing through the blue depending on where you look. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! We don’t know the age or origin of this cabinet but we do know that it’s special! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close-up ones. It’s a great old cabinet/cupboard!! The cabinet measures 43″ W x 30.75″ H with the scrollwork x 12 D without the knobs. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a great cabinet! We regularly put up new items so check out our other items! We will do our best to answer your questions. We will handle them on a case-by-case basis. We will do the same. AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE EARLY 1800s ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED BLUE WOOD WALL CABINET WITH WOOD DOWELS. Up for sale is this unbelievably amazing single door cabinet. It’s a wall cabinet and is all hand painted with reddish trim and tremendous patina. It’s dated 18xx something. We can’t read the other two numbers but at the top of the door it says “18”. At the bottom we can’t read the other numbers. There are also some intials on the door, and those appear to be AJL or FJL but they are very hard to read. The door has a crack in it but hey, at this age, what did you expect? ! Underneath the door there’s a little drawer. It is a very heavy cabinet and weighs 60 lbs!! It’s heavy duty old school wood. The wood is 7/8 thick! It’s also dovetailed at the top. Along the front, there are wood dowels along the trim and you can see them in the pictures. On the front it has old hardware including rusty old iron pin-type hinges, a rusty escutcheon around the key hole (we don’t have the key) and an old rusty nail that operates as a hold closed. Inside there’s a little shelf in the middle and a cup hook shelf above. The trim is very pronounced on this cabinet including the crown molding around the top of the cabinet. The crown appears to be about 1/4 above the paint line on the cabinet. There’s also a trim around the middle of the cabinet and one at the bottom of the cabinet. At the top, the trim is cracked as you can see in the pictures. This looks like and old break to us. At the bottom there’s been a little damage to the trim on the front and both sides as the trim is light and the cabinet is heavy. The paint appears to be all original and is dry, faded, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn, alligator-ed and patina-ed! This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look!! You will never see another one of these again! It’s truly one of a kind OOAK! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! 33 inches high to the top and 29.25 inches high to the main cabinet. 22.25 inches wide at the trim and 19.75 inches wide at cabinet. 13.25 deep at trim and. 12.25 deep at cabinet. Rawer is 14.5 inches wide and 4.75 inches high. Oor is 14.5 inches wide and 16 inches high. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. 23.5 Mexican Huichol Yarn painting 60-150. Lenght 23.5 inches (59.69 cms). Width 23.5 inches (59.69 cms). Thick 1 inches (2.54 cms). This painting is entirely made with yarn applied with beeswax and resin over a sheet of plywood. There’s a description of the painting written by the artist in the back that reads. In this painting we can see the ritual performed by the shamans in order to ask permission to find the peyote cactus that will be consumed. The shaman uses the peyote in order to be able to chant to the sacred gods and ask them for power to heal the sick. The deer is the one in charge of planting the peyote in the land so the huichol tribe can keep performing their rituals. The eagle is the one who carries the messages of the shaman for the gods. In this painting you’ll see a representation of the peyote cactus, the maize, the shaman, the muvieri, the sacred drum or tepo, the eagle, the deer, the snake and the sun. The peyote cactus or “Hikuri”, is a plant that the huichol people keep as their most sacred good used it to open a spiritual connection with their gods. Peyote is the soul of their religious culture and a visionary sacrament that opens a pathway to the other deities. The maize or Ikú, is the sacred food of the huichol tribe. There’s a legend that tells that the 5 races of maize, (white, red, yellow, blue and mottled) are considered to be daugthters of the mother earth. The goddes granted their daugthers to the huichol so they could have substanance and abundance. The word “mara’akame” means the one who knows, and is used to refer to the shaman in the huichol tribe. The marakames or shamans are the spiritual leaders. As ambassadors to the gods, shamans preside over ceremonies, recite the divine passages, cure the sick, interpret dreams, etc. He is the nexus with the gods, invoked through the ceremonial use of peyote, and receives instructions from the spirit world through visions, dreams and trances. The muvieri is a stick with feathers used by the marakame in their rituals. It’s a mean to contact their gods and receive their messages. It’s also used to heal, predict the future and in blessings. The Huichol believe the deer or Maxa represents the heart and is the gatekeeper and guide to the spirit world. The spirits guide the maxa, who leads the shamans on their visionary pathways and teaches them how to gain their special knowledge. The eagle, or werika, represents the communication bridge between god and men. The snakes guide the shaman or marakame during their rituals and are protectors of the peyote cactus. The Huichol represent one of the few remaining indigenous cultures left in Mexico. They live in self-imposed isolation, having chosen long ago to make their home high in the mountains of the Sierra Madre Occidental, in Western Central Mexico. Huichol Art dates back millenia. During spiritual rituals the shaman (know as marakame) have visions which are then transcribed into carvings, yarn art, bead art, pottery etc. Each image has spiritual meaning. The huichol tribe uses many simbols as representations of their deities and other things they deem sacred in their culture. Most common ones are the peyote, the deer and the snake.
