Fred Gardner Original Art Cutz Acrylic Painting on Wood. Title: “Down At The Cross”. Art measures 4″ x 6″. Frame measures 10.5″ x 12.5″. Fred Gardner is African-American. He is a native Texan raised in Corsicana. He is an Artist by profession, love and passion. Matriculating from an agrarian background, Fred’s love for the earth was nurtured in the center of East Texas soil where majestic oak and cedar trees cemented pastoral country visions. His grandfather felled trees and ran a fence business while Fred was a child. His father had a love for wood working but never pursued his passion; he instead maintained a ranch as a hobby where Fred worked constantly. These childhood memories placed an indelible mark on his soul which influenced his love for wood, art and beauty.

Vintage Mexican Folk Art CROSS Wooden Great Old Paint Crucifix Retablo

This lovely vintage Mexican wooden cross stands just short of 20 tall x about 7 wide x 4.75 deep. Its got wonderful old, soft blue-green and silver paint and an old lithograph print of the Virgin Mary and Christ child behind glass. Theres a minor crack in the base near the bottom of the cross (please see photos) and some holes at each corner of the base where something may have been at one time. The paint has staining and discoloration here and there, and the glass is quite dusty/dirty but I always just left it that way as it seemed in keeping with the rest of the cross. Please take a close look at the photos to ascertain condition for yourself. Its a wonderful old piece, one that Ive loved very much. I really hope youll love it, too. Ill remove the cross portion for the purposes of less expensive shippingit’s got a small peg at the bottom that fits into the base, so should be easy enough to re-attach. This extraordinarily charming late 1800s-early 1900s all wood, hand carved and painted crucifix measures 13 3/8 x 8 ¼ overall with a corpus measuring 7 ½ head to toe. It is largely untouched with worn and chipped paint history that is stable and shows several layers of color.
