Rosebee Vintage Folk Art Ptg Cider Farm Important New England Folk Artist
Outstanding folk art oil (possibly acrylic) on board painting of a busy New England farm, titled “Cider Farm, ” by important Cape Cod folk artist Rosebee b. The following biography is from the U. State Department’s Art in Embassies. My paintings reflect not only the life I lived and stories my grandfather told me, but America as it was long ago: when times were fairly straightforward and simple and there was a sense of magic all around us. The legacy of characters I knew and those my grandfather introduced to me fill my canvases with a sense of joy. Both real and imagined characters find their home in my work. I love my country, so my use of the American flag is not some politically correct statement for me – I’ve used them from the start. What I hope is that when people view my work they feel the same joy I feel that I do as I create each piece. People ask me how I can come up with so many different scenes and topics and I reply that I’ve kept my eyes and ears open for many years, now, (I was born in 1932) so there’s lots to paint! ” “Rosebee was raised in a New England town by her grandparents. Her grandfather was a whaler, and many of her paintings are inspired by her recollection of stories he told to her as a child – about sails, and whales and mermaid tails. Her grandmother was a quilter, and quilt patterns are very much in evidence in nearly all of Rosebee’s paintings. Rosebee came to painting late in life. Self-taught, she was prompted to begin painting because she wanted to create a visual record of all of her happy childhood memories. In the process, she has gained both widespread popularity and recognition. In 1987, for example, she was named the Most Promising Marine Painter in the Country by the Mystic Seaport Maritime Gallery. Her paintings are in the permanent collection of a number of prominent art museums, including The Peabody Museum, Salem Massachusetts; The Springfield Museum of Fine Art, Springfield, Massachusetts; The Barnum Museum, Bridgeport, Connecticut; The Heritage Plantation, Sandwich, Massachusetts; and the Custom House, Salem, Massachusetts. This painting is an outstanding example of Rosebee’s style. It is titled “Cider Farm” on a commemoration plaque and an original Rosebee poem, “The Cider Farm, ” is attached to the back of the frame. A label from The Captain Tobey House in Wareham is also attached. The painting is signed lower right, measures 16″ X 20″ (painting size), and is in good condition. Amazing vintage piece of Haitian art signed St Vil Murat? Work is rather old and on stretched canvas. Colors are very bright and similar to the Neo-Mannerism of Ernie Barnes work. Depicts a colorful & abstract view of a Haitian market. There are a few small condition issues that I have photographed. Just a few small areas where paint has worn away and there may be a blemish here and there. Painting could use a slight cleaning. It displays wonderfully as is. Frame measures 20 1/2″ x 12 1/2″. Actual canvas work measures 15 3/4″ x 8″. It could stand to be re-framed as the actual work does not fit perfectly in current frame and is a bit loose. Amazing find from a Chicago area estate. Vintage Wooden Patriotic Folk Art Painted Travel Electric Tattoo Case
Amazing painted wooden tattoo equipment case for travel or storage. The case is made of wood with an iron handle and fine early dovetail construction. Electric tattooing was invented in the late 1800’s, this case dates sometime in the early 1900’s. The case was found in Cincinnati, Ohio but we could not attribute it to any particular old time artist from that time. The eagle and lettering are wonderfully painted on the front with great detail and there is a painted “B” on one side. The eagle and the lettering painted on the case have a wonderful old surface and are in excellent condition with expected wear. It is 25 3/4″ long x 15 3/4″ wide and 9 1/4 deep. Like us on face book. The item “Vintage Wooden Patriotic Folk Art Painted Travel Electric Tattoo Case” is in sale since Wednesday, November 05, 2014. Please see all auctions images. We apologize for the camera flash glare. All mobile devices and computer monitors see colors differently. The painting is more on the darker sides, with cranberry brown colors, olive green colors, royal blue colors, bright whites, sepia, gold, yellow, black and browns. Gorgeous original signed oil painting, dating to April 1989. Size is 12″ by 16 ” inches on heavy thick paper board, with the overall size being approximately 15.5 inches by 19.5 inches, with frame. Condition of painting is very good and clean, with a small surface scratch. The wooden frame is in distressed condition with some scratches, nicks, dents and wear, but is clean. Please note, there is a hook on back, which I left as is, but I recommend adding screw eye hooks and wire to hang painting properly. Painting moves only very slightly in frame. I believe the frame was custom made for the painting. Women, men, children, dogs, cats, white chickens, a horse, sheep, a cow, boy with fishing pole, stuffed teddy bear, a red barn with hay and a farmer, a stone house, a baby cradle, blue enamel wear, rakes, quilts, rugs, farming tools, a clock, geese, chairs, a hurricane lamp, bureaus, furniture, a water pitcher and bowl, a spinning wheel, chairs, baskets, a butter churn, apples, maple syrup jugs, farming tools, an oil lamp, with all sorts of goodies. Painting would be lovely in a colonial home, salt box house, antique shop, a farm house, with the old Americana charm. Perfect for the Americana Fall Art Collector. Painting is a one of a kind gem and to be cherished. This is an ORIGINAL acrylic painting. Please write any questions. Thank you very much.
