Well presented in a dark wood frame with gilt effect detail. The condition is typical for a picture of this age. With some minor discolouration and surface dirt. Marks and abrasions to the substrate, most noticeably to the upper left corner. Scuffs to the frame. From a fine collection of varied and diverse works by the artist Henry E. He worked in a variety of mediums, including oil, watercolour, collage and pastel. His style ranges from traditional studies to modern compositions. His parents were both musical, and Henry began to paint at the age of eight. Outstanding in both art and mathematics, he studied engineering drawing at Royal Enfield, and went on to attend the Central Technical College, Birmingham in 1942, where he excelled. Gaining a local reputation as an artist, he often appeared with his paintings in the Works Magazine. He rarely parted with his own works, often reworking them, except in cases of commisions. Holding strong views on many painters, he didn’t like the Pre-Raphaelites. A real animal lover, his work includes country scenes, churches, and depictions of the area around Hopwood, Worcestershire. Working in a variety of media, sketching in charcoal, he often used a combined approach, painting many pictures several times. Adirondack Village of Clintonville, NY Vintage Folk Art oil Painting

This is a cute vintage almost-Folk Art type of oil painting that was done on artist masonite board by listed artist Ruth Mould (1894 – 1979) – the painting was done in the 1960’s – 1970’s. Was created with the viewer looking up a rural & curvy Route 9N in the village of Clintonville, New York in the Adirondack region where Route9N is leading to the famous Au Sable Forks where the Rome River branches into the Au Sable River. This appears to be in the late fall season where the artist has depicted all of the trees in the foreground as having muted shades of dark yellow & orange colors – all of the grass & ground foliage on both sides of the road have turned various shades of brown & gray colors – we see in the center & center right of the painting an old farm with various outbuildings which Mould has painted with a palette of muted & subtle red, yellow, white & blue colors to depict the farm buildings as weather-beaten as they would be considering their location in the Adirondacks. In the background, the artist shows two mountains with rounded tops which she has painted with very pale & muted blue & off-white colors which create a sense of distance & depth between the mountains & the Au Sable Chasm where Route 9N is going – specks of off-white color on the tops of the mountains suggest some snowfall already at the highest elevations. The painting measures 12″ x 16″ sigh size, & is in very good condition for its vintage age – it was very well kept by its former owner – the gray colored wooden frame is original to the painting selected by the artist herself – it measures 15″ x 19″, & is also in very good condition for its vintage age. Original framed oil painting by Kowalski on canvas of winter village theme. The artist has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner “Kowalski”. The painting measures approx. 19.5″ by 23.5″ with the frame 27 by 31. Painting is in good condition with minor scratches on the upper left corner side of painting. The deep carved wood frame with linen matting is in good condition as well. Please take a good look at the photos as they constitute the remainder of our description. The artist was born in Sopron in Hungary in 1926. He was a student of the Academy of Budapest andduring the uprising in 1956 against Communism he escaped from Hungary to Vienna. He has become internationally known for his (typically East European style) “Naive” paintings depicting Village life in the four seasons in glorious colour. Children especially like his works as each one tells a story. He has exhibited in many Galleries throughout Europe, particularly in Munich, Vienna, Tokyo, and Harrods in London.
