The artist at some point in her life was employed by the man’s parents as a housekeeper which during that time period in America this was a fairly common form of employment. It looks to be a typical small town. When I walked into the game room as soon as I peered at the painting it captured my attention much like how most of us crane our necks as we drive by an accident on the highway. It is just hard not to look. The artist according to the man ended up in some kind of asylum or institution later in her life before she passed. This qualifies as one of the more unique pieces of art that I have brought home. Measures approx 45″ inches tall by 39″ inches wide including the framework, which is approx 3 inches wide. Superb Antique 18c Large Winter Scene Painted Folk Art Glass Onion Bottle AAFA. This is a charming and unusual antique glass “onion” bottle dating to the 18th century. The large hand blown olive green bottle is charmingly decorated with a hand painted winter scene. Children can be seen flying down a sledding hill bystanders look on. The bottle is topped with a hand applied finish and shaved wooden cork. Condition: In overall good condition. As pictured, the painted decorated is flaking and lost is some areas. The base is uneven. As a result, the bottle tips toward one side.. This condition is consistent with age and use. Please examine the images for the best indication of condition. Dimensions: It is 18 1/4 to the top rim. Oil on panel Size without frame : 9.5″ x 13.5″ Size including frame : 14.5″ x 17.0″. A colourful folk scene of children dragging a hand-cart full of (fire) wood as a group of resting hunters look on. Most probably rural France; a very well painted, and typical, example of the work of Maröhn. On a lovely chamfered teak panel – often the sign of a very good artist. Very clearly signed in bottom Right Hand corner. Ready to hang straight on the wall where it is at the moment in my study, and has been for a number of years! Ferdinand Maröhn (also called Maronnio) was born in Germany, lived in France and painted mostly in a Dutch style. His biographical data are only partially known but. He exhibited many times at the Berlin Academy and, from 1846 to 1859, in several Parisian Salons. Maröhn was a prolific artist whose works have been included in the collections of some French museums (Reims and Ajaccio). Ian Emmerson Paintings was established in 1975 and was incorporated in 1997. We have always specialized in 19. Century British and European fine art and, being based in Northumberland, in artists/paintings of the North East of England/Newcastle. All original as found untouched estate find is this charming oval oil on canvas with provenance from Syracuse NY is this winter skating scene with plenty of dirt on surface. It is dirty and original frame has some losses and blemishes dirt build up etc. Has not even been wiped down – Original dust and dirt. But underneath is a beautiful New York State Folk art winter a Scenery with ice skaters and luminous sky. On back is some family notes as shown. Nice size approx 21.5 by 18.5 is the frame and the painting is 15.5 by 12.5.
