This is an antique folk art painting depicting an early river scene. In the foreground, you see a man on a boat collecting something from the water. In the background, there is some kind of mill. It’s signed L. Malisani and I believe it was painted in the late 1800’s. It measures 19.5″ wide and 15.5″ tall (22.5″ x 18.5″ with the frame). I currently have over 150 paintings for sale. Description: Up for sale is this very interesting American oil on canvas painting. Dating circa 1880 the frame is period and was manufactured in Philadelphia. Note paper label still attached. Depicts a mother and child walking through the snow to reach a home in the distance. The woman is carring a bundle of kindling on her back. Two lights shine from the home in the distance leading the way. Painting is unsigned as is often the case with folk art. Interesting to think that this scene would have been typical for the time: one’s ability to stay warm through the winter was directly dependant on your ability to bring in enough wood to keep from freezing. Original framed oil painting by Kowalski on canvas of winter village theme. The artist has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner “Kowalski”. The painting measures approx. 19.5″ by 23.5″ with the frame 27 by 31. Painting is in good condition with minor scratches on the upper left corner side of painting. The deep carved wood frame with linen matting is in good condition as well. Please take a good look at the photos as they constitute the remainder of our description. The artist was born in Sopron in Hungary in 1926. He was a student of the Academy of Budapest andduring the uprising in 1956 against Communism he escaped from Hungary to Vienna. He has become internationally known for his (typically East European style) “Naive” paintings depicting Village life in the four seasons in glorious colour. Children especially like his works as each one tells a story. He has exhibited in many Galleries throughout Europe, particularly in Munich, Vienna, Tokyo, and Harrods in London. Up for sale is this fantastic vintage piece of outsider folk art painting, looks like it may be a theorem. It is signed on the border Mae Ellen Kane or Karse? I was not able to dig up any information in the artist. It looks to be pastels or chalk on linen. Its a very busy painting with tons going, there is a Native American settlement with teepees as well as a few on horseback with headdresses on. There are oxen carts, bears, an eagle, some hunters.
