Antique Primitive Painted Wooden Candle Box Slide Top Old Nail Folk Art

For sale is an excellent Antique primitive early 19th century New England slide top wooden candle box with all original brown paint. There are many old wrought irregular nails visible near the edges of the box. The lid has a canted edge design, a very authentic old craftsmanship. Judging by its primitive form and patina, it is likely an early 19th century creation. The box measures approximately 11″ by 7″ at the top and 5 tall. The wood surface is well maintained over its long history of use. There is one minor loss for a top corner. Minor surface wears commensurate with age. Pat Lausch Peaceable Kingdom Folk Art Primitive Reverse Painting Ephrata Penn

Patricia Lausch (Pennsylvania, 20th/21st century). Untitled, late 20th century. About the artist: [Lausch] worked for many years alongside her husband, operating the family business, Lausch’s Dutch Barn antiques and reproductions. During this time, she became interested in the art of reverse glass painting – a passion she pursued for the rest of her life. Painting both landscapes and portraits, she became well-known for her folk art, including her unique portrayal of animals and flowers and vivid use of color. Her paintings are widely sought by collectors throughout the United States as well as abroad. For many years, she demonstrated her craft at the Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum in Lancaster, PA, as well as other venues. In recent years, she also performed volunteer work at the Museum where she looked forward to not only demonstrating her craft but likewise sharing her appreciation and extensive knowledge of art and history in general. In addition to her painting, she remained actively involved in the antiques business. Until her passing, she maintained an antique booth at Renninger’s Antique Market in Adamstown, PA, which included a display of her art work. She was a fixture at Renningers for many decades, continuing a family tradition that has been ongoing since the Market’s inception. She was also involved with the Ephrata Public Library, serving at one time as the Library Board President. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed spending time at her circa 1740s farmhouse where she gardened, bird watched and cared for her numerous cats. Measures about 9 x 11. Vintage original watercolor painting dating to 1985, on cold pressed watercolor paper, with the paper maker’s watermark of J. Paper is cotton, handmade. Painting is full plate, untrimmed, and is complete as artist signed on back and that is the artist’s long hand writing. Condition is very good with NO holes, NO odors, NO repairs. The back has some slight soiling is not considered ” clean ” per say. The front is clean, When held up to a bright light, there is NO damage. Overall size is approximately 11 inches by 15 inches, including blank margins.. One edge is deckled. The artist is F. Gesley, which is definitely signature of artist. The painting is from an estate in Creswell Oregon. I wrote the artist’s name and provenance on back. Beyond that, I have NO other information. Gorgeous primitive scene of a lovely marsh lake on a blue sky summer day with a man and woman fishing in their green wooden boat.
