For sale is an excellent Antique primitive early 19th century New England slide top wooden candle box with all original brown paint. There are many old wrought irregular nails visible near the edges of the box. The lid has a canted edge design, a very authentic old craftsmanship. Judging by its primitive form and patina, it is likely an early 19th century creation. The box measures approximately 11″ by 7″ at the top and 5 tall. The wood surface is well maintained over its long history of use. There is one minor loss for a top corner. Minor surface wears commensurate with age. Antique Old American California Folk Art Painted Wood Sign, Catalina Island

This is a rare and historically significant Antique Old American California Folk Art Painted Wood Sign, for Roy’s French Restaurant on Southern California’s famed Catalina Island. This painted sign appears to be painted on an old boat’s rudder and exhibits clear signs of decades of wear and use. This piece reads: Roy’s French Restaurat. For Ladies and Gentlemen. This sign approximately dates to the 1940’s – 1950”s. Unfortunately, I could not find any information on this establishment. This sign reveals it was a mainstay on Catalina Island since 1919. Perhaps you have eaten there, or know more about it? Approximately 40 1/2 inches wide x 33 inches tall. Good condition for age and use, with obvious signs of outdoor usage, wood splitting, scuffing, etc. Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California. Excellent condition with no flaws on the front, the back has a long scratch in the wood which no one will see when hung. One of a kind hand painted artisan made vintage wood plaque painted antique gold with beautiful Scandinavian German Nordic Rosemaling toll folk art painting signed by Dolores Sittlinger 1989. Picture of a farm landscape with a white rooster, forest cloudy sky with flying birds and 2 horses. Very skilled fine art. The top says “vivat” (live) 1989, under the rooster is the name Johan / Hahn (John) and “mit liebe handgemaltes einzelstück” is handwritten on the back which means hand painted with love. A truly gorgeous OOAK art piece perfect for a country folk rustic cottagecore old world look, especially if you know someone named John. It also has hanging hardware on the back. 8 1/2 inces tall.
