Jere nautical themed folk art piece. The whale is made of a heavy solid metal or lead. The board looks to be hand painted. Really a different style piece from the typical C. Jere works I’ve seen. Measurements 20″ tall x 14 1/8″ wide. It has a few small dings in the corners and some lighter wear from age. The green spacers were added to keep the whale from hitting the wood. We will try our best to describe the items accurately. We try our best to initially clean what we can, but some fabrics or items (due to age) are left as found. Vintage folk art oil painting nautical seascape Oregon artist Robert Whitsell

Vintage oil painting by Oregon artist Robert Whitsell. This charming folk art-inspired seascape shows a scene from Pacific Northwest nautical history, the schooner Nena-Mosha anchored in Siletz Bay on the Oregon coast in 1912. The painting itself is most likely from the 1960s-1970s. This is presented in its original wooden frame, which is quite handsome, professionally prepared, and complements the painting very well. On the back of the canvas is a label describing the historical significance of the scene. The frame measures 19″ x 23″, and the canvas measures 16″ x 20″. What little I know about the artist is through a brief conversation with his granddaughter. He was a very prolific painter of landscapes and genre scenes inspired by Pacific Northwest history. He might have had some gallery representation in Salem, Oregon. Condition: The canvas has some tiny rough spots in an isolated area – it’s either abrasion or just inconsistency in the paint application. I can find no other problems with the painting itself. Antique 19thC American Sailor Made Folk Art Nautical Painted Decorated Wood Box

Antique 19thC American Sailor Made Folk Art Nautical Painted Decorated Wood Box.. Constructed from white pine, this 19. Century Folk Art Box is constructed with small cut-nails. It measures 12″ long by 5″ tall by 8 wide. On the front are the initials “BI” and on the top is a miniature seascape painting with a sailboat and lighthouse. On either side of the box is a small painting of a naval Cutlass and a Cap & Ball Musket. These paintings are on a faux grain painted panel with a fine pinstriped border. The condition of the paint is excellent but there is a curved ring on the top where something round was placed. There are no other problems or restorations to the original folk art painted surface. Inside still retains its original bright, tangerine orange velvet. The bottom probably had a removable tray. We are listing this sailor made Folk Art Painted Box without any reserve.
