This is an outstanding and dramatic folk art mourning watercolor painting in its original period gold leaf frame. Memorialized are members of of tne Dalrymple family of Massachussetts: Sally age 9 who died April 7, 1810 (of spotted fever I discovered); William age 30 who died Dec. 14, 1811 (while traveling to Quebec); Henry age 29 years who died May 22, 1814 (of bullet wounds while serving in the United States Army in the War of 1812); and Ann 27 years old who died Sept. 5, 1825 (of Dysentary). There is a note at the bottom of the painting indicating that the information was provided by Eliza Dalrymple their youngest sister – who became a teacher in Marlborough, Mass. I quickly found the historical information on the internet in the William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan. By the way, Henry was a cooper in Watertown, Mass.
