Nice mid 19th century leather fire bucket with early paint and lots of character the name M. Peaslee painted in gold on bucket , which means this was a bucket that a home owner would have in their home as their civil duty to be part of the “bucket brigade” someone in the town would signal the home owners and everyone would help try to put out ones fire , was typical to have your name painted on your bucket so when you were done you could get your bucket back. I had this looked at by a serious collector for their opinion was told Circa 1840’s-1860’s Origin more then likely Philadelphia by the shape and size and way it was made. Condition : paint is original, a lot of surface cracks on leather and in paint , on one side the hoop that attaches the handle to the bucket has split over the years so only one side of the handle is attached, can be fixed if wanted to by a leather worker , there is a crack on the front of bucket and has been repaired in the same time period this was made please look at all pictures.
