Signature: Signed in paint, upper left. Title: Unknown, Seated Boy with Sombrero. Medium: Watercolor on Paper. Size: Artwork measures 14.5″ w x 19″ h. Frame measures 19.5″ w x 24″ h. Condition: There is a tape residue above the signature as well as on the upper edge, right corner. Frame: Appears original to the piece. Deep wood frame with brown wash detail. Charming Folk Art watercolor from Mexican artist Jose Illa Desetvin, framed under glass. An ebayer from Texas just told me this artist also is known as. Jose Maria de Servin. A second ebayer, from California, also agrees that the name should be Jose Maria de Servin. However, both names come up on Google and both names show similar styles. Please check both names for your self and decide. Ships to USA addresses by Fed Ex. Pair of framed oil on burlap paintings by JOSE MARIA de SERVIN. Wonderful images of children — each holding a doll. Hand carved wood frames. In very good condition. Framed, matted and signed. Size including frame: 26 1/2″ x 33″. Jose Maria de Servin was a distinguished member of the group Young Artists of Jalisco. He was an art professor at University of Arizona for 15 years. He is a beloved and honored artist in Mexico and his earliest exhibitions were in the 40’s. Examples of his work can be found at the Legislative Palaces of Guadalajara where he collaborated with Jose Orozco, as well as throughout Mexico City. THE PAINTING SCENE DEPICTS CHRIST, POSTHUMOUS TO THE CRUCIFIXION, SITTING IN THE CLOUDS ON TOP OF THE WORLD ABOVE TWO SOULS (ONE MALE AND ONE FEMALE)THE SACRED HEART OF CHRIST IS EXPOSED AND RADIATES A BRIGHT LIGHT AROUND HIM. THERE IS A CHERUB IN EACH OF THE UPPER CORNERS WHICH BALANCES THE PAINTING BEAUTIFULLY. THERE IS INFORMATION WRITTED TO THE VERSO OF THE CANVAS STARTING AT THE TOP WITH THE NAME ” MERCEDES/Z PARADEZ BELOW THAT THE WORD “MORENO AND THEN WHAT SEEMS TO BE A DEDICATION IN SPANISH. IT MAY BE THAT THE ARTISTS NAME WAS MERCEDEZ PAREDEZ. UNFORTUNATELY MY RESEARCH TOOLS ARE LIMITED FOR THIS TYPE OF ARTWORK AND IT IS HARD TO SAY WITHOUT FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THIS ARTWORK DOES BEAR SOME STYLISTIC SIMILARITIES TO WORKS BY FAMOUS MEXICAN ARTIST JOSE DE PAEZ BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE THERE IS ANY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THIS PAINTING AND THE ABOVE ARTIST. CONDITION: THIS PAINTING REMAINS IN AND STABLE CONDITION FOR IT’S AGE. THERE ARE TWO PATCHES ON THE BACK OF THE CANVAS AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF IN-PAINT IN THE AREA OF THE FEMALE SOUL. THE CANVAS IS EXTREMELY THIN , ALMOST PAPER-LIKE SO THIS PRECIOUS WORK MUST BE HANDLED WITH EXTREME CARE. MEASUREMENTS: BOTH – 36.5 CM HIGH X 29.5 CM WIDE (APPROX 14.4″ X 11.6″).
